At the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES), scheduled to take place in Las Vegas, USA, from January 7 to 10, 2025, Continental is set to unveil its groundbreaking “Emotional Cockpit” concept. This innovative design focuses on elevating personalisation and emotional engagement within the vehicle interior, showcasing a suite of advanced display technologies aimed at enhancing the user experience.

A central feature of the Emotional Cockpit is a striking 1.30-metre-long E Ink Prism display, which spans the entirety of the dashboard. This four-centimetre-high display leverages the technology familiar from e-readers to provide a myriad of customisation options. This integration of various vehicle display solutions promises not only aesthetic appeal but also functional adaptability, allowing users to tailor their driving environment according to their personal preferences.

Pavel Prouza, Head of the User Experience (UX) business area at Continental, commented on the innovation, stating, "Personalisation and emotionality are decisive success factors for vehicles of the future. Generation Z, for example, represents a new generation of customers who want to express their individuality and showcase their personality, especially through digital media." This feedback offers insight into the shifting expectations of modern consumers in the automotive market, particularly among younger generations who value digital engagement.

Beyond its aesthetic advantages, the E Ink display technology boasts significant energy efficiency, a particularly pertinent feature for electric vehicles. Unlike traditional backlit displays that require constant energy consumption, the E Ink Prism display only draws power momentarily when changing images. This allows it to maintain visibility without a continuous energy draw, aligning perfectly with the efficiency needs of electric vehicles—an increasingly vital consideration for manufacturers and consumers alike.

In addition to its internal applications, Continental is also demonstrating the versatility of E Ink technology for external vehicle use. The “Intelligent Vehicle Experience Demo Car” will showcase an external E Ink display mounted on the B-pillar, which can be configured to display personalised content. This feature provides drivers with essential information, such as the vehicle's current charge level, without needing to access the vehicle's interior—an innovation that enhances user convenience before embarking on journeys or during charging.

Continental’s presentation at CES 2025 will take place in a private exhibition located at Central Plaza, opposite the Las Vegas Convention Center, from January 7 to January 10. The company aims to highlight mobility innovations that span a full spectrum, from road applications to cloud technologies, thereby presenting a holistic view of the future of automotive design and technology.
