Google is trialling an innovative AI feature called Daily Listen, aimed at enhancing the user experience by personalising audio content based on individual search and Discover feed history. This experimental feature is being rolled out to Android and iOS users in the United States as part of Google's ongoing efforts to develop its Search Labs. The information was highlighted by 9to5Google, detailing how the Daily Listen feature functions similarly to the Audio Overviews of Google’s NotebookLM project.
Daily Listen utilises user data from Google’s Search queries and interactions with the Discover feed to curate content that is likely to pique the user's interest. The feature summarises articles and topics identified through this analysis into a concise five-minute audio overview.
In addition to the auditory experience, the feature also offers a text transcript for users who prefer reading, alongside user-friendly audio controls. These controls allow for functionalities such as playing, pausing, muting, rewinding, or skipping to the next story, enhancing the listening experience.
For those participants opting into this experimental feature within Search Labs, Daily Listen can be accessed through a personalised widget carousel located beneath the Search bar at the top of the Google app. Upon engaging with the audio overview, users will also see a “Related stories” tab at the bottom of the audio player. This tab correlates with content discussed in the overview, allowing users to give feedback on stories by liking or disapproving via a simple thumbs-up or thumbs-down mechanism. Furthermore, users are encouraged to explore new topics presented in the related stories.
As businesses increasingly integrate AI automation into their offerings, developments like Google’s Daily Listen may signify a broader trend towards tailored content delivery, potentially reshaping how information is consumed across various sectors.
