Contec Industrial Automation Solutions, an international engineering firm renowned for automating industrial processes and equipment, has chosen Greensboro, North Carolina, as the location for its new sales and engineering office. The decision marks a significant step in the company's ongoing expansion and highlights Greensboro’s appeal as a business hub.
Set to open its office at the Centreport Office Park later this month, Contec’s move is projected to generate 24 new jobs in Greensboro, labelled by the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce as “very good jobs.” Additionally, the establishment of this office will involve an investment of approximately $250,000. While this amount may not be the most substantial addition to the local tax base in recent years, every new company that establishes operations in Greensboro serves to enhance the city's economic landscape.
Over the past five years, Greensboro and Guilford County have witnessed a surge in economic successes, prompting some residents to express concerns about the consequences of rapid growth. Issues such as a housing shortage, increasing traffic congestion, and the impact of developments encroaching on rural areas have led to discussions about the sustainability of this economic expansion.
Despite these concerns, local officials and economic development advocates remain committed to attracting new businesses. In a statement, Christopher Chung, CEO of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, expressed enthusiasm for Contec's arrival, noting the factors contributing to the company’s decision to set up in Greensboro. “Our highly skilled workforce, which includes the largest manufacturing workforce in the Southeast, and workforce development programs attract companies, such as Contec IAS, from all over the world,” Chung stated.
Contec's President Koen De Pryck elaborated on the reasoning behind their choice of Greensboro for their North American headquarters, citing the city's robust talent pool, commitment to innovation, and a collaborative engineering community as primary motivations. He deemed Greensboro “the perfect place for us to grow and thrive,” indicating a long-term vision for success within the community.
Greensboro’s Mayor Nancy Vaughan expressed her enthusiasm for Contec's establishment in the area, remarking, “I’m thrilled to welcome Contec IAS to our dynamic community of talented professionals.” She highlighted the city’s vibrant engineering scene, driven by innovation and collaboration, as an exceptional environment for the firm's operations.
Additionally, Skip Alston, chairman of the Guilford County Board of Commissioners, praised the implications of bringing in diverse international businesses like Contec IAS. “Welcoming global businesses… not only strengthens our local economy but also continues to place our community on the world map,” he noted, reflecting the county's ongoing commitment to fostering strong business relationships.
Brent Christensen, president and CEO of the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce, referred to Contec’s decision to establish operations in the city as a clear endorsement of Greensboro’s strengths as a leader in advanced industrial automation.
Furthermore, the project saw collaboration from various local and state entities, including the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce, High Point Economic Development Corporation, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, and multiple educational and energy organizations.
Contec’s promotional materials underscore its broader vision of automation, suggesting that the firm is dedicated to creating not just efficiency in industrial processes but also enhancing job satisfaction and the overall value brought to communities. This philosophy aligns with their goal of transforming tomorrow's industry today, a sentiment that resonates with various stakeholders as they look towards the future.
