With over 17 years of experience in media, communication, and technology, Kiwia has become a pivotal figure in the continent's digital transformation. Kiwia serves as the co-founder and Chief Growth Officer of Adanian Labs, a tech venture studio that has become synonymous with digital innovation across Africa. Since its inception in 2020, Adanian Labs has focused on nurturing and scaling tech startups that specialise in cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Under Kiwia’s leadership, the studio has successfully launched more than 40 tech startups, each aimed at addressing Africa's unique challenges and opportunities.
Adanian Labs isn't just about startup creation; it’s also a hub for enhancing the capabilities of tech teams across the continent. The studio offers a variety of training programmes in software development, data science, IoT, AI, and blockchain. These initiatives range from short courses and boot camps to comprehensive masterclasses, equipping participants with the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. Furthermore, Adanian Labs provides a holistic suite of services, including legal support, accounting, financial planning, technology management, human resources, and marketing, ensuring that startups have all the resources they need to succeed.
In addition to her pivotal role at Adanian Labs, Kiwia is deeply involved in various global and regional initiatives. She is a member of Top Tier Impact, a worldwide ecosystem of investors and entrepreneurs committed to sustainable and impactful investments. Kiwia also serves as the Tanzanian ambassador for the Women in Africa Initiative, where she champions the empowerment of women across the continent. Kiwia's entrepreneurial journey began long before Adanian Labs. In 2006, she founded Frontline Media Africa, a pan-African media and communications firm with a strong focus on technology. Eleven years later, she launched Twaa, an AI-powered platform designed to facilitate knowledge sharing and mentorship for women and girls across Africa. In 2019, she took another significant step by establishing eCOBba, an AI-driven fintech company. Not stopping there, in 2021, she founded The Africa Blockchain Center, a Web 3 company dedicated to the development of blockchain skills and solutions.
Irene Kiwia’s academic background complements her professional achievements. She earned a bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Public Administration from the University of Dar es Salaam in 2004 and went on to obtain a master’s degree in Marketing in 2011. Her contributions to the tech industry and commitment to women's empowerment have also earned her recognition; in 2015, she was named Africa Woman of the Year by Africa Reconnect.
