Romanian EdTech Startup Youni Secures €900,000 to Revolutionise University Admissions

Bucharest, Romania - Youni, a pioneering Romanian edtech startup, has successfully raised €900,000 in seed funding to enhance its AI-powered university admissions platform. The funding round was led by Czech investment firm Soulmates Ventures with an investment of €600,000, alongside an additional €300,000 from Romanian fund Early Game Ventures.

Youni leverages advanced AI technology to assist students in gaining entry to some of the world's most prestigious universities, including Harvard University, the University of Cambridge, and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). The platform acts as a comprehensive support system, aiding students in their personal and professional development while streamlining the arduous university admissions process.

How Youni Works

Upon joining the platform, users create detailed profiles outlining their interests, goals, academic results, and achievements. These profiles are then used by Youni's AI-driven algorithms to recommend suitable fields of study and compatible universities. This alignment not only benefits students in finding their best-fit programmes but also aids universities in recruiting top-tier candidates and easing the workload on their admissions teams.

In addition to university recommendations, Youni provides access to verified tutors who help students prepare for standardised tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, A Levels, GCSE, SAT, or the International Baccalaureate. Educational advisors are also available on the platform, offering crucial advice and support throughout the academic journey.

Impressive Track Record

Youni boasts a 100% acceptance rate for its applicants. The platform has already facilitated the successful university admissions of over 6,000 students, securing scholarships totalling $52 million. The system not only helps in admissions but also in more effective scholarship allocation, benefiting both students and institutions.

Founders' Insights

The inception of Youni is rooted in the personal experiences of its founder and CEO, Andrei Nicolae. Reflecting on his own challenges during the university application process in Romania, Nicolae identified a pressing need for a more streamlined and supportive system. "When I was looking for a university, I didn't really know which field of study was the most suitable for me. At that time, it was not possible to apply online to study at a university, and all information was scattered across various platforms. This was both time-consuming and mentally demanding," Nicolae explained. "When I worked in education in Germany, I saw that local students also experienced similar difficulties. That's why I decided to develop an intelligent platform that would serve as a universal helping hand to all students."

Investment and Future Plans

Hynek Sochor, Founder and Managing Partner of Soulmates Ventures, expressed confidence in Youni's potential to make a significant impact. "Finding the right field of study and succeeding in entrance exams is often very difficult for students. They need comprehensive information, direction, and support. We consider using scalable and modern digital technologies for this purpose to be an excellent idea that has the potential to simplify students’ paths towards their ideal career path," Sochor stated.

With the newly acquired funds, Youni aims to expand its reach significantly. Over the next year, the team has set an ambitious goal of helping one million students gain entry to their ideal universities, potentially revolutionising the landscape of higher education admissions through innovative AI technology.
