Sony Opens Preorders for Highly Anticipated PlayStation 5 Pro Console
Sony has commenced preorders for its latest gaming console, the PlayStation 5 Pro, with the official release date set for November 7. The pre-order phase, which kicked off today, is expected to see heightened demand with inventory predicted to remain scarce throughout the holiday season.
Priced at $700, the PS5 Pro is equipped with advanced features guaranteed to enhance the gaming experience. The console’s technological advancements include AI-powered enhancements for 4K resolution, advanced ray tracing for superior visual effects, and support for both 60Hz and 120Hz displays. Additionally, the console boasts an impressive 2TB storage capacity, significantly amplifying the storage space compared to its predecessor.
Besides the advanced hardware improvements, the PS5 Pro promises enhanced wireless connectivity and superior compatibility with 8K resolution TVs via its HDMI 2.1 port. The DualSense wireless controller, known for its haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, further adds to the immersive gaming experience that the new console is set to deliver.
Discussing game compatibility, the PS5 Pro will support all PS4 and PS5 titles, with a selection of games optimised specifically for its enhanced capabilities. Notable titles include "The Last of Us Part I," "Gran Turismo 7," and "Horizon Forbidden West," among others. Additionally, over 8,500 supported titles will benefit from a PS5 Pro version of Game Boost, aimed at providing smoother frame rates and enhanced performance.
As part of the lead-up to PlayStation's 30th anniversary, Sony is also launching a limited-edition PlayStation 5 Pro bundle that will have a thematic connection to the original PlayStation console from the mid-1990s. Available for preorder today and set for release on November 21, this special bundle has already seen rapid sales in the UK. The exclusive bundle includes a PS5 Pro with 2TB storage, a DualSense wireless controller, a DualSense Edge controller, a charging station, and various accessories and memorabilia. There will be only 12,300 units available, and the bundle is listed at $999.99 USD.
Sony introduced the 30th Anniversary Collection, showcasing a variety of themed products in a YouTube video and subsequent blog post. Apart from the standard and special edition consoles, the collection includes stand-alone PlayStation Portal Remote Players and individual controllers, aligning with the nostalgic theme of the original PlayStation.
The PS5 Pro is a significant upgrade over the four-year-old standard model, featuring a GPU with 67 percent more compute units and 28 percent faster RAM. These enhancements potentially triple the console's ray-tracing performance, offering superior lighting, reflections, and shadow effects. The incorporation of Sony's proprietary AI-powered technology, PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, serves as a counterpart to Nvidia’s DLSS and aims to deliver ultra-HD graphics with remarkable detail.
In terms of overall design, the PS5 Pro maintains a similar form factor to the original PS5 but adopts the width of the disc-less PS5 Slim. Purchasers do need to buy the disc drive and vertical stand separately.
The console's launch event also underscored select games from the extensive PS5 library that will leverage the upgraded system. "Marvel’s Spider-Man 2," "The Last of Us Part II Remastered," and "Final Fantasy VII Rebirth" were a few of the highlighted titles adapted to harness the enhanced functionality of the new console.
Gamers and collectors alike are eagerly engaging with the preorder phase, vying to secure both the standard and limited-edition versions of Sony's cutting-edge PlayStation 5 Pro. With its official launch date fast approaching, anticipation continues to build for what is poised to be one of the standout tech releases of the year.
