Thomson Reuters Unveils AI-Driven Audit Tool to Revolutionise Audit Practices

New York, NY – Thomson Reuters has announced the debut of its pioneering tool, Audit Intelligence Analyze, marking the first in a suite of AI-powered solutions aimed at enhancing audit quality and efficiency. This innovative offering integrates artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to streamline audit processes, focusing on high-risk areas by segmenting audit testing populations and reducing the overall number of items to be tested. The announcement was made by Thomson Reuters in a media release.

The key aspect of Audit Intelligence Analyze is its advanced anomaly detection capabilities. This feature allows the tool to seamlessly fit into existing auditor workflows, identifying unusual items that might be overlooked by human auditors and automatically generating the necessary audit documentation. As a result, auditors can concentrate their efforts on more high-risk areas, significantly improving both the efficiency and quality of audits.

Audit Intelligence Analyze automates manual audit processes, enabling smaller, more targeted samples. This shift allows auditors to focus on higher-risk areas, reducing firm risk overall and enhancing audit quality. The tool claims to save auditors between 30 minutes to two hours when it comes to client data provision and sample selection and documentation.

A major advantage of this tool is its seamless integration into existing audit processes. There is no need for auditors to adopt new methodologies, as the tool complements their current practices. Additionally, the solution is fully configurable, providing transparency in the selection and understanding of advanced risk identification techniques.

Dave Wyle, General Manager of Audit at Thomson Reuters, emphasised the company's dedication to developing AI-driven products. “Today’s announcement underscores our commitment to investing in and developing products that enable data-driven, AI-powered audits,” Wyle stated. He highlighted that the new solution can halve sample sizes, thereby saving valuable time for both auditors and their clients, and allowing auditors to focus on higher-risk areas.

Currently available to early adopters, Audit Intelligence Analyze is expected to launch in the United States this autumn, with a United Kingdom rollout planned for 2025. The tool is integrated into the Thomson Reuters Cloud Audit Suite and can also be deployed as a standalone solution for firms with their own methodologies.

Thomson Reuters has ambitious plans for the Audit Intelligence suite, which will soon incorporate CoCounsel, the company's professional-grade generative AI assistant. From next year, auditors will be able to use CoCounsel alongside Thomson Reuters Guided Assurance to automate audit programme steps and checklists. Future updates to the suite will include Audit Intelligence Test, which automates substantive testing and verification by tracing accounting transactions to banking activity and supporting documentation, and Audit Intelligence Plan, which uses technology-driven analytics for auditors’ planning and risk assessments.

Partnerships are also playing a crucial role in the development of Audit Intelligence. Thomson Reuters is collaborating with Validis, an on-demand accounting data provider, to integrate Validis’ data ingestion capabilities directly into the Audit Intelligence suite. According to Jeff Gramlich, Managing Director at Validis, this collaboration brings advanced data ingestion capabilities to the tool, enabling auditors to conduct data-driven audits with greater efficiency and risk analysis.

“We’re excited to collaborate with Thomson Reuters, a true market leader and innovator, to deliver audit-ready data through our cutting-edge ingestion capabilities,” Gramlich said. The integration of Validis technology into the Audit Intelligence suite will help auditors seamlessly ingest client data, optimise sample selection, and enhance risk analysis, thereby transforming the audit process for the better.

Thomson Reuters' approach to integrating advanced AI and machine learning into audit processes sets a precedent for the future of auditing, offering exciting possibilities for audit professionals looking to leverage data and technology to improve their practice.
