Google Expands Access to AI-Powered Gemini Assistant for Business Users
Google has announced an expansion that will allow users with Workspace Business, Enterprise, or Frontline plans to access its AI-powered Gemini assistant. This move is set to benefit millions of Workspace users, offering a range of productivity enhancements powered by artificial intelligence.
Enhanced Efficiency and Quality
The announcement, made via the Google Workspace blog, included results from an internal company analysis based on pilot surveys conducted across 18 enterprises worldwide. The data indicated that users saved an average of 105 minutes per week when using Gemini. Additionally, 75 percent of respondents reported an improvement in the quality of their work.
Security and Privacy Promises
One of Google's key reassurances accompanying the announcement was aimed at addressing potential data security concerns. Google emphasised that Workspace customers would reap the advantages of AI without compromising on their organisation’s privacy, security, and compliance policies. The admin console will provide customers with the ability to choose and control how Gemini handles user prompts and generated response retention. Furthermore, Google guarantees that Gemini does not utilise organisations' data, user prompts, or generated responses to train or improve its models.
New Security Enhancements
In tandem with the Gemini upgrade, Google Workspace introduced new security enhancements, including a security advisor, described as a "personal security expert." This tool provides business insights, actionable guidance, data protection controls, and recommendations aimed at bolstering organisational security. Rollout of the security advisor to all Workspace Business edition customers is expected to occur over the next few weeks.
Industry Certifications
Google highlighted that Gemini for Workspace is among the first generative AI solutions to receive significant industry certifications. This includes certifications like SOC 1/2/3, ISO 27001, and ISO 27701, following its earlier efforts this year to support HIPAA workloads. Google reassured users that their commitment to data privacy, confidentiality, and security remains at the core of their product design.
Comprehensive AI Features
This latest suite of updates follows a series of enhancements unveiled during Google I/O in May and subsequent updates in June. These included the integration of Gemini features into Google Workspace apps and Gmail. The Gemini assistant now appears in the services’ side panels, offering sophisticated features, including the Gemini 1.5 Pro model with an extended context window and improved reasoning capabilities.
Wide Range of Functionalities
Gemini for Workspace offers a range of functionalities to its users. Users can upload files from their devices or Google Drive to Gemini Advanced, enabling data analysis and spreadsheet operations. Additionally, new features cater to the needs of travellers with an advanced planning feature. Users can also chat with the Gemini bot concurrently while messaging friends, providing a comprehensive AI-assisted experience.
