Harnessing AI to Elevate Business Productivity: Insights from Columbiana
Columbiana, Ohio – The recent Embracing the AI Evolution event, part of the Advancing at The CAT business series, provided enlightening perspectives on how Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology can enhance business productivity. The event, held in Columbiana, Ohio, featured a roster of speakers who shared practical ways businesses can integrate AI into their operations.
Jonathan Altfeld, a recognised speaker at the event, suggested that utilising AI in business could be as straightforward as “playing” with it. Altfeld encouraged attendees to experiment with different AI tools monthly to gauge their potential benefits. “You just can’t break it,” he assured, implying the resilience and utility of AI systems. He recommended incorporating AI into problem-solving tasks and comparing AI-generated results with human efforts. Altfeld emphasised that AI will continually evolve, eventually surpassing human capabilities in many areas, yet he advised keeping the human element involved for supervising the AI’s outputs.
Altfeld underscored the importance of ethical oversight and feedback to ensure AI systems improve consistently. “Don’t trust it, but use it to speed you up,” he cautioned. He highlighted the efficiency of AI in editing tasks compared to creating entirely new content, advising businesses always to edit AI output to align with specific needs and styles.
Dani Edgerton, the owner of A Place for Paws in Columbiana, shared her positive experiences with integrating AI into her small business. Over the past year and a half, Edgerton has used ChatGPT while on the move, particularly for responding to customer reviews. She finds it especially helpful for crafting informative replies, rather than generic thank-you notes or responses to negative feedback. This approach not only addresses the reviewer but also informs potential readers.
Edgerton also relies on AI for a range of tasks including social media content planning, business meeting organisation, employee task assignments, and marketing brainstorming. By using AI-generated suggestions and tailoring them to fit her business’s voice and style, Edgerton has streamlined her operations effectively. Additionally, AI assists her in managing inventory, determining pricing strategies, and personalising client services based on customer data.
Devyn Bellamy, a HubSpot expert, demonstrated the efficiency of using AI to create custom websites. Bellamy showed footage of him quickly generating a functional website using only his mobile phone and a coffee shop’s Wi-Fi, highlighting the accessibility and speed of modern AI tools. He encouraged business owners to leverage AI for various creative tasks, ensuring the final product retains a human touch after preliminary AI assistance.
Greg Smith, chairman of Compco, reinforced the necessity of embracing AI to avoid obsolescence. Smith proposed the idea of stacking different AI components to create comprehensive multimedia content, such as jingles and videos. He also pointed out the transformative potential of AI in sectors like healthcare and education. According to Smith, students are adapting to technology at a faster pace than educators, pushing the education sector to evolve in response.
The event underscored the diverse applications of AI across various business functions, presenting a compelling case for its adoption. Sponsored by The Business Journal, Compco, Humtown, and the Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce, the Embracing the AI Evolution event was part of a larger initiative aimed at advancing business knowledge and skills.
The Advancing at The CAT series will proceed with its next symposium, titled Live 2 Lead – 10-second Elevator Pitch, on October 25, focusing on leadership and personal development. This session will be conducted by the Maxwell Leadership Team, continuing the commitment to equip businesses with the tools needed to thrive in the modern landscape.
