NIO Unveils ONVO L60 Smart Electric SUV Featuring NVIDIA DRIVE Orin
NIO, the prominent Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has unveiled its latest offering under the ONVO brand: the ONVO L60 SUV. This mid-size family SUV, launched recently, is enhanced by the advanced AI capabilities of the NVIDIA DRIVE Orin system-on-a-chip.
Setting a New Standard in Smart Mobility
Earlier this year, NIO introduced the ONVO brand—signifying "On Voyage"—to underscore its dedication to creating safer, smarter, and more affordable mobility solutions for mainstream families. The ONVO L60 represents a significant advancement in this mission, integrating cutting-edge technology with practical design.
The backbone of the ONVO L60’s smart-driving system, known as OSD, is the automotive-grade NVIDIA DRIVE Orin. This AI-driven system delivers up to 254 trillion operations per second, enabling high-performance computation and multi-layered processing of sensor data from the vehicle's vision-based sensor suite. The suite is comprised of high-definition cameras and 4D radar systems with extensive detection ranges, facilitating a robust and comprehensive view of the driving environment.
NVIDIA DRIVE Orin operates on the NVIDIA DriveOS, an operating system crafted for AI-defined vehicles. This platform has seen wide adoption by leading global automakers and is already in use in NIO’s ET7 sedan, ET5, and ES7 models. The system supports advanced driver assistance and autonomous driving features, which are continuously enhanced through over-the-air updates.
Innovative Design Meets Practical Utility
The ONVO L60 showcases NIO’s commitment to blending sleek, modern design with user-friendly features. The SUV is built around six key pillars: comprehensive safety, spacious comfort, intelligent cabins, remarkable mileage range with efficient recharging, superior ride and handling, and advanced driver-assistance functionalities.
The base model of the ONVO L60 is priced at approximately ¥149,900 yuan (around $21,000 USD), excluding the battery. This pricing strategy supports NIO’s unique battery-as-a-service (BaaS) option, which is popular among 70% of NIO’s customers. Through BaaS, customers can access NIO’s extensive battery swap network, which comprises over 2,500 Power Swap Stations throughout China, with plans for further expansion.
A Decade of Collaboration
The launch of the ONVO L60 also signifies a major milestone in the decade-long collaboration between NIO and NVIDIA. By integrating the NVIDIA DRIVE platform, the ONVO L60 aims to deliver a highly advanced driving experience while maintaining affordability.
NIO has positioned the ONVO L60 as a family-friendly, tech-savvy choice in the rapidly evolving EV market. The combination of innovative technology, practical design, and competitive pricing is designed to meet the mobility needs of a wide range of consumers.
