Raoul Pal, the founder of Real Vision and a prominent figure within the cryptocurrency community, has issued a significant warning about the impending seismic shifts in the global economy, driven largely by rapid technological advancements, specifically in the realms of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. In a recent video, Pal, an advocate for understanding what he terms the "exponential age," predicts that the coming years will usher in profound changes unlike any experienced before, fundamentally altering the nature of economies worldwide.

Pal foresees the approach of an "economic singularity," anticipated to arrive by 2030, which he believes will render existing economic, market, and business frameworks obsolete. "By about 2030, things are going to become not understandable by using the existing frameworks of economics, financial analysis, markets, and that kind of stuff," said Pal. He highlights that the advancements in AI and robotics are progressing at an unprecedented rate, outstripping human capability to adapt within current economic systems.

Pal’s argument is bolstered by demographic shifts in developed nations, where falling birth rates and aging populations contribute to diminishing traditional economic drivers of GDP growth. Additionally, he notes that productivity has lagged behind technological capabilities, and a significant portion of new debt is merely servicing old debt without generating new economic value.

One of the most potent elements of Pal’s warning is the role AI will play in the future economy. He asserts that AI will not only reach but surpass human intelligence in all areas of knowledge, revolutionising labour and productivity landscapes. "AI is basically infinite human knowledge now […] As these models scale, the breakthroughs come through, and the average IQ of AI goes from 100 to 400, and then on to a million times the intelligence of a human," Pal explains.

The enhanced capabilities of AI are expected to lead to near-infinite productivity and dramatically reduced marginal costs of electricity, spurred by advancements in renewable energy technologies. These developments are anticipated to exert substantial deflationary pressures, making goods and services significantly cheaper to produce.

In this transformative scenario, Pal is particularly optimistic about the role of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies. He envisions a future where "AI agents" will autonomously perform tasks and transact using cryptocurrencies, sidestepping traditional banking constraints. "Obviously, we’ll probably need crypto payments to pay you. [...] I think we’ll use cryptocurrency to do that because last thing I checked, AI can’t get a bank account – it’s never going to transfer money over SWIFT, never going to happen," Pal remarked.

Pal advises those interested in capitalising on these emergent technologies to act swiftly, suggesting the window for making substantial gains is narrowing, with only about six years remaining before traditional economic and market structures irrevocably change. "We’re going to have to go through this together and we have to be smart and try and figure it out as we go but I do know that this idea of six years to make as much money as possible is really important and I do think that the real answer to this, as far as I can see, is cryptocurrency because it is the best performing asset in the world and of all time. So I think that’s the one thing we can lean in, it has a huge future," Pal advised.

At the time of reporting, Bitcoin’s value stood at $63,588.
