Samsung Launches Global Campaign for Galaxy AI and Health Features
Samsung Electronics has unveiled an international promotional effort to highlight the capabilities of Samsung Health and Galaxy AI. The campaign, orchestrated by Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH) Singapore, centres around a narrative that melds health with a touch of humour and competition.
The cornerstone of the campaign, a two-and-a-half-minute film titled "A Samsung Health Story: Racing to Fiji," captures the journey of a young couple, Stacey and Steve, who rekindle their passion for surfing as they prepare for an upcoming holiday in Fiji. This spot, directed by Rhys Thomas of Stink Films, known for his notable contributions to "Saturday Night Live" and other productions like "Documentary Now!", "Comrade Detective," and Marvel's "Hawkeye," introduces a storyline packed with playful rivalry and personal health aspirations.
The film opens with Stacey reminiscing over a five-year-old surfing photo from her camera roll she shares with Steve. Their sudden realisation that it has been half a decade since their last surfing adventure propels them to get fit for their impending getaway. The narrative creatively integrates various Samsung Galaxy products, prominently featuring the new Galaxy Watch7, Ultra, and Galaxy Ring, which are pivotal in tracking their fitness progress.
Central to the film’s plot is the Galaxy-powered Energy Score, a fresh feature in the Samsung Health app, calculating their physical and mental vitality through metrics such as sleep, sleeping heart rate, heart rate variability, and daily fitness activities. Throughout their journey, Stacey and Steve leverage these tools to measure and compare their energy scores, thus engaging in a lively and motivating competition as they ramp up their fitness routines by running and swimming.
As the couple reaches Fiji, an unexpected turn of nature's events, poor weather, compromises their surfing plans. However, the adverse conditions reignite their fitness rivalry, creating a full circle from where the story began.
Artistic direction for the film was managed by Christine Lim, with writing credits to Judy Au. The creative approach aimed to tackle Gen Z’s wellness challenges with a lighter tone rather than a stringent, stress-induced perspective. "We wanted to make something entertaining to show that health doesn’t always have to be serious and stressful," remarked Sascha Kuntze, chief creative officer at BBH Singapore. "Thankfully, our clients bought into it, and we were able to add elements of comedy to tell a really playful story."
Sung Chang, executive vice-president at Samsung Electronics, underscored the technological advancements backing the campaign: "With the launch of Samsung Health, the new Galaxy Ring and Galaxy Watch7 and Ultra, we introduced our new Energy Score – a daily measurement of your physical and mental vitality calculated by your sleep, sleeping heart rate, heart rate variability and daily fitness activities. And with Galaxy AI, you receive personalised insight messages and wellness tips to help you reach your personal health goals."
The comprehensive campaign will also feature shorter edits, lasting 30 and 15 seconds, tailored for global markets including the UK, France, Germany, and Korea. These will be disseminated through popular digital platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.
As Samsung aims to bring a fresh perspective to health and wellness, focusing on the integration of fun, competition, and advanced technology, the “Racing to Fiji” campaign stands as a testament to their innovative approach. Future instalments are expected to expand on the characters and their adventures, continuing the blend of narrative storytelling with cutting-edge health tech.
