Snap Inc., the parent company of Snapchat, has expanded its collaboration with Google Cloud to boost the functionality of its popular AI-powered chatbot, My AI. This significant partnership enhancement involves the integration of Google's Gemini via Vertex AI, designed to enable Snapchat's multimodal generative AI features. As a result, Snapchat users, known as Snapchatters, can now enjoy an enriched interactive experience across text, images, and videos, thanks to this technological advancement.
Currently, Snapchat is one of the largest consumer platforms for chatbots, serving over 850 million users each month. The deployment of Gemini on Vertex AI is reported to have significantly increased user engagement, achieving more than 2.5 times the interaction within the United States since its incorporation.
The integration within Snapchat allows My AI to handle complex tasks that span various types of media. Users can, for example, photograph a street sign while travelling to receive an immediate translation or film an array of snacks to solicit dietary advice on the healthiest choice.
CEO of Snap Inc., Evan Spiegel, expressed enthusiasm about this development, emphasising that the partnership with Google Cloud continues to reinforce the essential elements that Snapchat aims to offer its community. Spiegel highlighted that the incorporation of Gemini into My AI would enhance users' ability to share spontaneous experiences and knowledge with friends quickly.
Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, also commented on this collaboration, recognising Snap's pioneering role in digital communication and its forward-thinking adoption of generative AI technology through multimodal capabilities. The use of Gemini on Vertex AI provides a foundation for millions of interactions within the Snapchat application daily, equipped with precision and built-in safety features.
The strategic relationship between Snap Inc. and Google Cloud traces back over a decade, beginning with Snapchat's first launch on Google Cloud in 2011. Over the years, it has grown to encompass data analytics and AI/machine learning technologies aimed at enhancing user experience and promoting growth. This deep-rooted partnership aims to continuously leverage AI to transform user engagement strategies in the media and entertainment landscapes effectively.
The comprehensive application of these multimodal capabilities is now available to Snapchat users throughout the United States, marking a remarkable shift in how generative AI can influence digital interaction and communication in everyday life.
