Vimeo and Leidos Announce Strategic Leadership Appointments to Drive Growth

New York, USA

Vimeo, the renowned video-hosting platform, has announced plans to expand its footprint both as a consumer-facing and a business-to-business (B2B) video platform, leveraging cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) to reshape internal and external communications. In a strategic move to propel this growth, Vimeo has appointed Charlie Ungashick as Chief Marketing Officer.

Ungashick, initially serving as the interim marketing chief since January, outlined Vimeo's ambitions to PRWeek, focusing on dual-audience growth. He emphasised the company's vision to turn Vimeo into a primary tool for internal corporate communications, encouraging businesses to create extensive video libraries for employee use. This initiative is particularly pertinent as AI streamlines video production processes, reducing costs and increasing accessibility.

"We're integrating new technologies like AI and leveraging our strengths in e-commerce, marketing, video sharing, and learning and development to help customers transform their businesses," Ungashick said. His approach aims to establish Vimeo as a valuable resource for both consumers and enterprise clients, spanning a variety of content forms from learning and development videos to short features.

Frank Filiatrault, Vimeo's Director of Communications, supported this strategic direction, noting the potential of AI to enhance Vimeo's capabilities further. He remarked, "As we start to embrace technologies like AI, I want to ensure we're communicating what those technologies can do for our audiences."

Vimeo's ambitions are underscored by Ungashick's plans to boost brand awareness across a broader audience and foster innovation within the company’s marketing department. This includes introducing AI-driven features like video translation, auto-generated text summaries, and interactive AI tools that enable users to query video content.

The company's global aspirations are reflected in its organic growth in regions like Brazil and Japan, marking significant international expansion. Vimeo reported a Q2 2024 revenue of $104.4 million, marking a 2.5% increase year-over-year, and a 76% rise in net income to $10.1 million.

Reston, Virginia, USA

In parallel, Leidos, a leading defense technology company, has appointed Thomas Downey as the new Executive Vice President and Chief Communications and Marketing Officer, effective October 7. Downey steps into the role following the departure of Melissa Dueñas, who moved to Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in August.

Downey will report to CEO Tom Bell and will have oversight of Leidos’ comprehensive internal and external communications, marketing functions, and the integration of the company's government affairs team. The goal is to harmonise communications across the organisation, enhancing the company’s narrative and influencing policies that affect its innovation capabilities and customer service delivery.

Prior to joining Leidos, Downey served as the communications leader for Boeing between 2006 and 2017. His tenure involved crafting global communication strategies covering media relations, brand management, advertising, and executive as well as employee communications.

Leidos, headquartered in Reston, Virginia, is a Fortune 500 innovation leader with 48,000 employees worldwide. The company's focus areas include delivering advanced technological solutions for customers in heavily regulated sectors. In Q2, Leidos reported revenues of $4.13 billion, surpassing forecasts. This 8% year-over-year revenue increase was primarily driven by a surge in demand across various customer segments, notably in managed health services, with the company’s net income rising by 54% to $324 million.

These strategic leadership changes at Vimeo and Leidos highlight both companies' commitment to growth through innovation, expanded branding, and strategic communication to meet the demands of evolving markets.
