Jim Cramer: Bullish on Target, Skeptical of SoundHound AI
Renowned financial commentator and CNBC host Jim Cramer has announced his investment plans regarding several publicly traded companies, offering insights into his current stock market strategy. During the “Mad Money Lightning Round,” Cramer revealed he is buying shares of Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT), while expressing scepticism about SoundHound AI, Inc. (NASDAQ:SOUN), dismissing it as a "meme stock".
Target Corporation has caught Cramer's eye as a promising investment opportunity at its current price point. He indicated that he intends to purchase shares and then potentially acquire additional ones if the price decreases by another five points. This decision aligns with recent developments in the company’s leadership team, with Jim Lee from PepsiCo stepping in as the new Chief Financial Officer. Lee, who officially joined Target on September 22, brings over 25 years of diverse experience in finance and strategic roles at PepsiCo, and has been involved with various boards, including those of Tropicana Brands Group and Celsius Holdings. He succeeds Michael Fiddelke, who has transitioned from the CFO position.
In contrast, Cramer showed little enthusiasm for SoundHound AI, designating it as a "meme stock" that currently operates at a financial loss. Despite this, DA Davidson analyst Gil Luria recently maintained a Buy rating for the company, setting a price target of $9.50 as of September 30.
Expanding on his stock market views, Cramer also mentioned Unity Software Inc. (NYSE:U), suggesting he might consider it a potential purchase if the company becomes significantly profitable. The software development company recently saw its price target increased by Macquarie analyst Tim Nollen, who maintained an Underperform rating while raising the price target from $12 to $15.
Further reflecting on financial prospects, Cramer expressed optimism towards pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co., Inc. (NYSE:MRK), advising investors to consider buying at the current levels. This follows Merck's announcement that its Phase 3 KEYNOTE-689 trial of Keytruda as a perioperative treatment for certain types of head and neck cancer successfully met its primary endpoint for event-free survival.
In the biopharmaceutical realm, Cramer referred to Alumis Inc. (NASDAQ:ALMS) as an "incredibly speculative" stock, cautioning that investors should be prepared for potential losses. Alumis recently presented data from a 28-week open-label extension period of its Phase 2 STRIDE trial of ESK-001 on September 27.
Cramer's statements reflect his strategic financial insights and his careful consideration of recent developments in the stock market, providing guidance for investors seeking to navigate an ever-evolving economic landscape.
