The HbbTV Association has unveiled the details of its upcoming HbbTV Symposium and Awards 2024, which is set to convene some of the most influential figures in the connected TV industry. This pivotal gathering is scheduled to occur from 14-15 November 2024 in London and will be co-hosted by UK-based platform operator Everyone TV, a consortium backed by major broadcasting entities including the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, and Channel 5.
The symposium will embark with opening keynotes from prominent industry leaders: Vincent Grivet, the Chair of HbbTV; Jon Piesing, the Vice-Chair of HbbTV; and Jonathan Thompson, CEO of Everyone TV. These addresses will set the stage for informed discourse on the dynamic TV landscape. Further insights will be provided by Paul Gray from Omdia, who will be offering an analysis of the latest trends and developments shaping the global TV market.
Among the key topics to be explored, a principal focus will be directed towards the strategies for reaching IP-only households via HbbTV Operator Applications. This will be followed by a series of sessions delving into the themes of deployments, monetisation strategies, implementation challenges, and solutions, particularly concerning HbbTV-based addressable advertising. The transformative potential of artificial intelligence on HbbTV-based business models will also be critically examined in a keynote presentation.
The integration of HbbTV with DVB-I will be highlighted as a strategy for effective IP distribution, addressing contemporary needs for resource efficiency, including reducing energy consumption in TV and streaming devices.
The symposium will gather a host of high-profile speakers from key industry players, offering a broad array of perspectives and expertise. Notable participants include Chris Poole from the BBC, Deep Halder of Everyone TV, Paul Kane from ITV, Alexis Ashley from YouView, and Arne Redl representing SES/HD+. Other esteemed speakers encompass William Cooper, an independent consultant, Ophélie Boucaud from Dataxis, Nicole Agudo Berbel of ATVI/ProSiebenSat.1, and Peter Neumann also of ATVI. Further contributions will come from Leticia Noriega Gonzalez of TP Vision, Leander Carell from Nowtilus/Serverside.ai, Philipp Rotermund of wedotv, and many more leading voices from organisations such as Eutelsat, Samsung, and Huawei.
The symposium will notably offer an unconference format on the second day. This setup is designed to foster interactive and focused discussions within smaller groups, allowing participants to collaboratively determine the agenda and delve deeply into topics of mutual interest. This innovative approach aims to empower attendees to actively shape the discourse and outcomes of their sessions, ensuring a dynamic and engaging conclusion to the event.
Overall, the HbbTV Symposium and Awards 2024 promises to be a significant event for stakeholders in the connected TV arena, providing valuable insights and fostering meaningful dialogue within the industry.
