The Consortium for School Networking (CoSN), a prominent organisation supporting digital learning transformations, continues to play a crucial role in advancing educational technology initiatives. In collaboration with the Centre for Applied Special Technology (CAST), CoSN has recently published a major report titled "AI and Accessibility in Education." This report delves into how artificial intelligence (AI) can be harnessed to improve educational accessibility, especially for students with disabilities. As AI technologies and assistive tools become more ubiquitous in classrooms, understanding their advantages and potential drawbacks is becoming increasingly vital.
The report accentuates AI's capacity to significantly uplift educational accessibility, aiming to better accommodate students irrespective of their backgrounds or abilities. It stresses the importance of inclusive design, robust policy implementation, and continuous professional development to ensure that AI's integration into education is both effective and ethical. By following the guidelines outlined in this report, educators and policymakers can create environments where every student has the opportunity to realise their potential.
The "AI and Accessibility in Education" report was facilitated by The Blaschke Fund. This initiative was founded in memory of Charles Blaschke, a notable figure in education technology policy and advocacy, who contributed extensive research on the U.S. education system over five decades. Fernanda Pérez Perez, the 2024 Charles Blaschke Scholarship fellow, was the principal architect behind this report.
In addition, CoSN in association with AASA and edWeb.net is involved in hosting an edLeader Panel series, aimed at fostering collaboration among superintendents, district and school administrators, and educators. These panels offer a platform for experts to discuss various facets of educational technology. Scheduled for November 11th at 5 p.m., the next broadcast titled "Leading and Leveraging Artificial Intelligence Tools Within K-12 School Districts," will see three pioneering superintendents sharing their insights on using AI in educational settings. Previous sessions, like the October 14th panel on cybersecurity, continue to be available online for those interested.
Looking ahead, CoSN is gearing up for its 2025 Conference, set to be held from March 31 to April 2 at the Hyatt Regency in Seattle, Washington. This event promises a rich programme, featuring pre-conference engagements and a detailed agenda to cover various aspects of digital learning and network strategies.
