In a significant advancement for security and surveillance technology, Synectics has made public the introduction of AI-driven features to its Synergy security software. The update, designated as version 24.2, brings substantial improvements through the Synergy DETECT feature as part of the AI Suite. These enhancements align with advancements in mobile app capabilities, improved data protection, privacy measures, and new integrations with third-party systems.
Synectics’ AI-powered Synergy DETECT module is designed to be compatible with various camera types, including fixed, PTZ, and thermal sensors. This flexibility allows users to customise and deploy 12 distinct AI-based surveillance tools tailored to their specific security needs. These tools have been designed to address a range of scenarios such as detecting safety issues like worker trips or falls, unauthorised access to hazardous zones, non-compliance with safety equipment protocols, crowd formation identification, intrusion, and suspicious behavioural patterns such as loitering.
Dan Noble, the Head of Product Strategy at Synectics, explained the strategic advantage of this new technology. He highlighted the adaptability of Synergy DETECT, stating, “The beauty of Synergy DETECT is that it puts the power of AI directly in the hands of our users in a way adaptable to their unique needs. The Synergy platform has also seen advancements in its mobile application, initially launched earlier this year for Android devices. These advancements allow users to engage in dedicated workflows directly from their devices, offering the capability to view live or recorded footage from selected cameras. Enhanced tracking, mapping, and live task updates have been incorporated to ensure synchronisation between control room teams and field units, significantly improving response times in dynamic situations.
Noble further elaborated on these improvements, noting, “The ability to access live or recorded footage and follow workflows directly from a mobile device transforms how teams respond to potential threats. Imagine a security officer investigating an intruder – now, they can instantly access location maps, camera feeds and updates from their phone. This speeds up response times and ensures real-time data informs every decision. It’s a game-changer for coordination between field teams and control rooms.”
The latest Synergy update also introduces tools designed to streamline data protection and compliance. A new policy creation wizard facilitates the establishment of clear usage protocols for both web and mobile app users, ensuring adherence to data protection regulations and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). An enhancement in privacy tools is marked by the introduction of a “critical exception authorisation” feature, allowing authorised personnel to bypass video privacy zones temporarily during emergencies.
The user experience has been a focal point in this update, with an accessible ‘Help’ function and ‘time hop’ capabilities for swifter video review processes being incorporated. To simplify system performance monitoring and troubleshooting, a PSN status dashboard has been added. Synergy now also integrates seamlessly with AXIS Event Streaming and is compatible with Hanwha AI Analytics, enabling real-time alarm notifications from Hanwha’s edge-based AI analytics.
