Universal Orlando Announces Opening of New Epic Universe Theme Park

Orlando, Fla. – Universal Orlando Resort has announced the opening of its much-anticipated fourth theme park, Universal Epic Universe, slated for May 22 next year. The inauguration coincides with the Memorial Day weekend, setting the stage for the summer's biggest attractions in central Florida, an area renowned for its theme parks.

Epic Universe promises an array of exhilarating experiences with its themed areas devoted to franchises such as Harry Potter, Super Nintendo, and "How to Train Your Dragon," alongside classic monster movie brands. This expansion reflects Universal's push to elevate its status in Orlando, vying for supremacy against its primary competitor, Walt Disney World.

"We are thrilled to welcome guests to Epic Universe next year," stated Karen Irwin, President and Chief Operating Officer of Universal Orlando Resort. She highlighted the opening as a significant milestone for the resort, which aims to enhance the visitor experience with its expanded offerings.

Upon opening, visitors will have the opportunity to explore Epic Universe’s creatively themed sections, which aim to transport guests into the worlds of their favourite films and video games. Additionally, the new park will introduce the Universal Helios Grand Hotel, providing expanded accommodations within the resort.

Tickets and holiday packages are set to go on sale next week, with Universal implementing measures to manage anticipated high demand. Initially, visitors purchasing multi-day passes will have limited access to Epic Universe, allowing entry on just one day, while still enjoying the other three existing parks: Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, and the Volcano Bay water park.

This ambitious project does not only aim to bring new experiences to visitors but also to boost the local economy with anticipated increases in tourism. The announcement comes amid fierce competition with Walt Disney World, also in Orlando, which currently operates four theme parks with plans for significant investments, potentially including the addition of a fifth park.

Universal's ongoing expansion is part of a broader trend within the theme park industry, as operators continuously seek to innovate and enhance their offerings to attract the millions of tourists visiting Orlando each year. As both Universal and Disney vie for the attention of theme park enthusiasts, visitors can expect exciting developments in the coming years from these entertainment giants.

The introduction of Epic Universe marks a pivotal development in the Orlando theme park scene, promising to deliver new adventures and challenges for thrill-seekers and families alike. With this launch, Universal Orlando Resort continues to expand its already impressive portfolio of attractions, reinforcing its position as a leading destination in the theme park capital of the world.
