Canva Enhances Platform with New AI-Powered Features, Including Dream Lab Image Generator

Sydney, Australia – Design software giant Canva has announced a slate of new features as part of its recent 'Droptober' release, spotlighting the integration of advanced artificial intelligence tools into its popular platform. Central to this update is the introduction of Dream Lab, an AI image generator powered by Leonardo.AI, a company Canva acquired in July 2024.

The Dream Lab is set to establish itself as a pivotal tool within Canva's suite, aimed at facilitating the creation of high-quality, customised images through text prompts. Utilising Leonardo's Phoenix foundational model, users can generate content in over 15 distinct styles, ranging from intricate 3D renderings to more traditional illustrations. This tool enhances Canva's capacity to serve a diverse user base, offering seamless integration of multi-subject or reference-based images into users' designs.

Canva's expansive content library also benefits from this update. The platform's library, which already boasts more than 100 million photos, graphics, audio files, and templates, has been significantly boosted by the addition of Artlist's Premium Video Library and 150,000 photos from Pocstock's collection. This vast array of resources combined with AI-generated image capabilities provides designers with virtually limitless creative possibilities.

In a nod to enhancing user experience, Canva has introduced several other notable features. Among these is the Custom Mockups feature, enabling users to convert their photos into brand-aligned mockup templates. This addition aims to streamline the brand presentation process for businesses and designers alike. Furthermore, Canva now integrates more closely with Google Workspace, allowing users to collaborate within Canva directly from Google’s suite of tools.

The platform is also enhancing its interactive elements, with new features like polls and quizzes that can be customised within the editor. Such tools are designed to augment presentations and social media posts, offering interactive engagement options to users. Presentations and Whiteboards functionalities have seen updates as well, focusing on content organisation and feedback collection.

Additionally, Canva has rolled out a new feature called branded Captions, which assists users in creating on-brand textual additions to their designs, and Magic Write has been upgraded with smarter suggestions to improve writing outputs. Magic Studio's existing features, including Magic Design, Magic Media, Background Remover, and Magic Eraser, are set to deliver enhanced output quality through Dream Lab integration.

Although some of the newly announced features, such as Dream Lab and branded Captions, are available for immediate use, other features like advanced mockups, polls, and quizzes are slated for release in the near future. Some of these features might require a professional subscription on Canva, potentially limiting access for some users.

The comprehensive update underscores Canva's commitment to leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance its design platform, offering both increased functionality and an improved user interface. This initiative reflects a broader industry trend towards integrating AI tools to meet the evolving needs of digital design professionals.
