Core Scientific, a prominent player in the Bitcoin mining sector, is set to significantly boost its revenue over the next 12 years through an expanded hosting agreement with CoreWeave. The company has projected a total revenue generation of approximately $8.7 billion following the expansion, as confirmed in a statement on 22 October.

CoreWeave, a company specialising in high-performance computing, has opted to increase its hosting capacity with Core Scientific by an additional 120 megawatts (MW). This commitment is part of an extended contract that is expected to augment Core Scientific's revenue by an additional $2 billion, bringing the total projection from its partnership with CoreWeave to $8.7 billion. This figure includes the $6.7 billion revenue estimate from previous contracts.

To accommodate the expanded requirements, Core Scientific plans to modify its infrastructure starting in the latter half of 2025. This involves adapting to manage the additional 120 MW of “critical IT load,” which is necessary to host CoreWeave’s NVIDIA Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). The critical IT load pertains to essential elements such as servers, storage, and communication switches, apart from non-critical components like air conditioning and cooling.

The required infrastructure upgrades will be financed through a $180 million capital investment by CoreWeave, which will be offset against hosting fees. The agreement also includes provisions for two potential five-year extensions, indicating a long-term strategic partnership between the two companies.

The operational phase of this expansion is slated to commence in the second half of 2026, by which time Core Scientific will manage 500 MW of HPC infrastructure for CoreWeave. This substantial capacity positions Core Scientific as one of the leading publicly traded data centre operators in the United States.

Adam Sullivan, CEO of Core Scientific, underscored the strategic value of this partnership. He remarked on the rising demand for infrastructure capable of supporting advanced computational workloads, affirming that their arrangement with CoreWeave lays a robust foundation for Core Scientific's evolution into a leading data centre enterprise. Furthermore, Sullivan disclosed the company’s plans to enhance power capacity at existing data centres and is considering new locations to further expand its HPC hosting capabilities.

Following the announcement of the extended agreement, Core Scientific’s stock experienced a notable rise. According to data from Yahoo Finance, the stock price of Core Scientific (traded under the ticker CORZ) jumped by 5.1%, reaching $13.48.

This development marks a significant step for Core Scientific in its ambitions to scale up its operations and accommodate the growing needs of high-performance computing infrastructures, reinforcing its status in the industry.
