ExoMatter, an innovative startup specialising in AI-driven materials research, has successfully completed a €1.7 million Pre-Seed funding round. The investment was spearheaded by ZAKA, with participation from Vanagon VC, BayernKapital, 212 NexT, Bloomhaus Ventures, and a group of four female super angels representing encourage ventures. This strategic funding is intended to propel the company’s development and optimisation of their unique materials research platform.

ExoMatter provides cutting-edge solutions for researchers and developers seeking to explore new materials for industrial applications. The platform integrates data from a wide range of scientific sources and utilises artificial intelligence alongside quantum chemical modelling to deliver comprehensive information on materials' physical, chemical, and engineering properties. In addition, it offers valuable insights into sustainability metrics and cost indicators, aimed at enabling companies to reduce materials costs and carbon emissions.

The funding will support ExoMatter's mission to address significant challenges faced by industries such as manufacturing and chemicals, where there is a growing demand for cost-efficiency and reduced environmental impact. By leveraging AI, ExoMatter aims to transform materials science, providing solutions for creating new types of materials that meet modern industrial needs.

ExoMatter is led by Dr. Josua Vieten, a seasoned chemist and materials scientist, who serves as the CEO, alongside COO Barbara Bachus, previously the R&D Coordinator at Celonis, a unicorn company based in Munich. The duo has demonstrated the efficacy of their platform in its early stages, having already secured partnerships with prominent companies such as Airbus and Infineon. These collaborations highlight the potential of ExoMatter’s technology to revolutionise materials research.

Commentary from Andrej Petrus, Partner & Head of Investment Committee at ZAKA VC, reflects the optimism surrounding the new funding. He noted the growing opportunities within the materials science sector as a result of recent advancements in AI, recognising ExoMatter’s platform as a significant innovation poised to meet the industry's increasing demands.

Barbara Bachus expressed enthusiasm about the successful fundraising, stating, "We are thrilled to have successfully closed this funding round in close collaboration with our lead investor Vanagon. With the support of our investors, we will further automate and scale the ExoMatter platform, and we are already in talks for a follow-on funding round next year."

With the new capital injection, ExoMatter plans to enhance its capabilities and scale its operations, continuing to provide pivotal solutions for material innovation and sustainability. The company is already in discussions for further investment next year to support its growth trajectory and technological advancements. As ExoMatter expands its reach, it seeks to solidify its role as a leader in the rapidly evolving field of AI-driven materials research.
