Humane Announces Price Cut Amid Struggling Sales of Ai Pin
San Francisco-based technology startup Humane has announced a significant price reduction for its flagship product, the Ai Pin, hoping to boost its appeal amid disappointing sales figures. Initially launched in April this year with a retail price of $700, the Ai Pin will now be available for $499. In a bid to attract customers, the company is also offering the first month free on its Humane Plan, coupled with a no-strings-attached 90-day return policy.
Founded by two former high-ranking Apple executives, Humane aimed to make waves in the tech industry with the Ai Pin. However, the device did not resonate well with consumers or critics. Reviewers have been largely critical since its release, which has sparked an increasing number of returns relative to new sales of the gadget.
By August, reports indicated that the volume of returns for the Ai Pin had surpassed its sales, leaving a notable inventory of between 7,000 to 8,000 units in circulation. This imbalance in market performance has prompted the company to reassess its marketing strategies and pricing model to mitigate the dwindling interest.
In response to the lukewarm reception and financial challenges, Humane reportedly initiated discussions as early as May to explore the possibility of selling the company. This step reflects the internal pressures faced by the startup in navigating the competitive tech landscape and meeting consumer expectations.
Despite these hurdles, Humane remains optimistic that the reduced price and risk-free trial period will invigorate interest in the Ai Pin, encouraging potential customers to experience its offerings without the immediate financial commitment. The company continues to streamline its approach, hoping to regain traction and secure the product’s place in the market.
The Ai Pin, which promised innovative functionalities, has yet to carve out a definitive niche within an industry driven by rapid technological advancements and evolving consumer demands. It remains to be seen how the company will address these challenges moving forward.
