Presto Tech Horizons Fund, a venture capital collaboration between Presto Ventures and Michal Strnad's Czechoslovak Group (CSG), has announced its initial round of investments, channeling €150 million into promising tech projects from NATO nations and their allies. The fund is targeting innovative technologies, particularly those with applications in defence and security, a focus underscored by recent geopolitical tensions.

The first trio of companies to receive backing exemplifies diverse technological advancements:

  1. Bavovna: This US-Ukrainian company is pioneering a hybrid AI-driven navigation system specifically designed for unmanned vehicles (UVs). The technology ensures operational autonomy even in environments where remote navigation systems are compromised, such as areas with disrupted GPS signals. This capability is particularly pertinent to drone missions and holds future promise for logistics sectors, including last-mile delivery. Bavovna has successfully secured $1.7 million, with Presto Tech Horizons acting as the lead investor.

  2. Vidar System: Specialising in portable AI-driven acoustic location technologies, Vidar System's products are designed for battlefield deployment and strategic asset protection. The Ukrainian military is already employing these systems as a defensive measure against artillery attacks. This technology provides significant advantages in military and civilian defence measures, highlighting the vital role of acoustic systems in modern warfare scenarios.

  3. Tur.ai: A Dutch startup focused on robotic process automation (RPA), Tur.ai develops AI tools that streamline both internal and customer-facing business processes in real-time. This enhances efficiency and productivity across various sectors, including finance, telecommunications, and logistics. Tur.ai has raised $1.45 million with Presto Tech Horizons as the leading investor.

Premysl Rubes, a founding partner at Presto Tech Horizons, highlighted the extensive efforts undertaken since the spring, evaluating over 1,200 startups from 15 countries and engaging with hundreds of tech entrepreneurs. He pointed out that the synergies within the fund make it possible to facilitate access to new markets and accelerate growth for these companies.

Lucie Bresova joins Presto Tech Horizons as a new partner, bringing strategic insights into the fund's operations and facilitating collaboration with startups. She emphasised the increased importance of investment in defence and security technologies, suggesting a cautious yet proactive approach to modern security challenges.

Presto Tech Horizons continues to look ahead, eyeing future investments in the realms of general AI for industrial robots and intelligent systems designed to enhance railway transportation security. Additionally, the fund is considering investment in a startup working on quantum algorithms aimed at complex computational challenges across cryptography, logistics, and drug development.

This first set of investments marks a significant step for Presto Tech Horizons in fostering technological innovation and addressing pressing security concerns on a global scale.
