Cisco Systems, a multinational technology conglomerate, has announced a series of technological advancements aimed at enhancing AI infrastructure capabilities for enterprises. At the core of this development is the introduction of new server offerings integrated with Cisco Intersight, a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution adept at managing a diverse array of systems, including Kubernetes containers and hyperconverged environments.
A significant highlight of Cisco's latest innovations is the anticipated synergy between these servers and the newly launched Cisco Nexus 9364E-SG2 switch. The Nexus 9364E-SG2, characterised as a high-density 800G aggregation device, facilitates seamless connectivity and data flow with its support for varying port speeds that range from 400 Gbps to 100 Gbps. Additionally, it offers high-speed optical network connections, adhering to standards like Open System Form Factor Plus (OSPF) and Quad Small Form Factor Pluggable Double Density (QSPF-DD).
Jeremy Foster, senior vice president and general manager of Cisco Compute, alongside Kevin Wollenweber, senior vice president and general manager of Cisco Networking, Data Center and Provider Connectivity, highlighted the critical role of this switch in their blog. They emphasised that the Nexus 9364E-SG2 is engineered to support large-scale AI model training, which demands substantial data handling capabilities with minimal latency. According to their statement, the switch’s high-density 800G aggregation feature ensures efficient data exchange across servers. Advanced congestion management complemented by large buffer capacities further elevates the switch's performance by mitigating packet drops and maintaining low latency, thereby enhancing training efficacy.
Parallel to the switch's launch, Cisco introduced AI Pods. These Pods are preconfigured, validated, and optimised infrastructure packages designed to be adaptable to various data centre or edge environments. Built on the principles of Cisco Validated Designs, the AI Pods offer a tested framework that assists clients in creating a robust, scalable, and secure networking infrastructure. Specifically, these Pods incorporate Nvidia AI Enterprise, a suite of pretrained AI models and development tools tailored for immediate production application, seamlessly managed through Cisco Intersight.
The introduction of these AI Pods signifies Cisco's commitment to providing ready-made solutions that simplify the deployment of AI infrastructure while ensuring it can meet the evolving needs of enterprises. By integrating sophisticated networking capabilities and easy-to-deploy infrastructure components, Cisco positions itself as a key player in the rapidly advancing field of AI technology infrastructure.
