Salesforce has officially launched Agentforce, a new AI agent development platform, marking a significant milestone in the company's offerings in artificial intelligence. This new tool provides a low- or no-code solution for creating chatbots, intended for use by both employees and customers, and emphasises ease of deployment.
On Tuesday, Salesforce announced that Agentforce is now generally available, and it is already being utilised by well-known companies such as OpenTable, Saks, and Wiley. The platform promises to streamline operations by reducing the need for human intervention in carrying out specific tasks. According to the company, these AI agents can be activated by various triggers such as data changes, business rules, or pre-built automations.
Salesforce presents this new platform as extending beyond the realm of simple chatbots and co-pilots, which are common in AI technology. This announcement could be seen as a competitive gesture towards Microsoft, whose own suite of AI agents for Dynamics 365 was recently unveiled. Salesforce's CEO, Marc Benioff, didn’t miss the opportunity to critique Microsoft's efforts, notably remarking on the implementation issues and data management problems associated with their AI tools, metaphorically referring to them as "Clippy 2.0" after Microsoft Word's outdated assistant feature.
Agentforce is positioned as an evolution from Salesforce’s previous AI tool, the Einstein Copilot. The company emphasises a synergistic relationship between human users and AI, which is designed to collaboratively enhance customer service and business operations. This model is particularly evident in the words of Slack's CEO, Denise Dresser, who regards the integration of AI into her platform as a pivotal element in transforming Slack into what is described as a "work operating system."
The release includes the Agentforce Service Agent, designed as a self-service tool available to customers at a starting rate of $2 per conversation. Additionally, the Agent Builder feature allows users to create custom agents based on various templates, affirming the platform’s mission to provide tailored solutions without requiring extensive coding expertise.
The introduction of Agentforce signifies Salesforce's ongoing commitment to embedding artificial intelligence within its business strategy, reflecting a wider trend amongst enterprise technology companies. As AI continues to develop, the implications of these innovations on workflow and customer interaction remain a focal point for organisations across the globe.
