In a strategic move, the company has appointed Dr. Dominic Hughes as its Chief Scientific Officer, marking a significant stride in its ambition to enrich storytelling through advanced technology.

Dr. Hughes brings a wealth of expertise in AI and machine learning to AGBO. His prior experience includes co-founding the personalised audio news app Swell, which saw a successful acquisition by tech giant Apple in 2014. During his tenure at Apple, he played a pivotal role in conceiving and executing AI and language models for Apple News. His academic credentials are equally impressive, with a Ph.D. from Oxford University, complemented by his ongoing work as a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley.

AGBO's strategic decision comes at a critical juncture for the entertainment industry, which is currently navigating the burgeoning capabilities of generative AI technology. This technology is impacting various aspects of filmmaking, particularly in visual effects, prompting companies like AGBO to explore proprietary, third-party, or public AI solutions to stay ahead in the game.

Angela Russo-Otstot, AGBO's Chief Creative Officer, emphasises the company's commitment to ensuring that technological advancements are guided by the creative community. "We are enthusiastic about collaborating with Dr. Hughes to craft tools and processes that enhance the precision, efficiency, and creativity of our artists," Russo-Otstot stated.

Echoing this sentiment, AGBO co-chairs Anthony and Joe Russo highlighted the transformative potential they see in merging creativity with technology. They noted the company's dedication to a creative-led approach, working closely with writers, directors, and technologists to empower artists in telling their most aspirational and innovative stories.

Dr. Hughes, enthused about his new role, expressed his eagerness to unite with AGBO's creative minds to pioneer the next wave of filmmaking technology. "This is an exhilarating period to collaborate with visionaries, leveraging artist-led AI-enabled solutions," he remarked, underscoring AGBO's proactive stance in adopting cutting-edge filmmaking techniques.

This development signals AGBO’s intent to navigate and shape the evolving landscape of the entertainment industry by placing creative storytelling at the heart of technological innovation.
