In early December, Apple is set to launch a major update featuring significant enhancements in artificial intelligence capabilities across its iOS, iPadOS, and macOS platforms. This update, scheduled for the first week of December, introduces iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2, bringing advanced functionalities to Apple devices.
The key highlight of this update is the integration of OpenAI's ChatGPT with Apple's voice assistant, Siri. This integration will provide users with a more interactive and efficient assistant experience. Additionally, new features include Genmoji, allowing the creation of custom emojis using artificial intelligence, and the Image Playground app, which generates custom images.
Furthermore, the update introduces Visual Intelligence, a feature for iPhone 16 users that leverages AI to analyse and provide information about objects within the camera's view. This feature is activated through a long press on the Camera Control button.
In a bid to broaden language options, the iOS 18.2 update will enable varieties of English beyond the American version, thereby enhancing accessibility for global users. The subsequent update, iOS 18.4, scheduled for release in April, promises to further improve Siri by enabling it to utilise on-screen data when responding to queries.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has encountered a setback with the removal of its 'Gamepad Keyboard' feature from the Windows 11 24H2 update due to unresolved bugs. This feature, designed to facilitate text input using Xbox and other game controllers, was initially launched in preview form in September 2024. However, issues identified in the latest preview build have resulted in its temporary removal until further notice. Microsoft plans to include the feature in future updates once the problems are rectified.
Windows 11 continues to enhance its platform with various features, focusing on productivity tools and artificial intelligence. Earlier this year, Microsoft introduced AI-powered functionalities such as AI Recall and Copilot, which leverage GPT language models to improve user experience. The Gamepad Keyboard, designed as a bridge between gaming and computing, remains a key anticipated feature awaiting its complete deployment.
Apple’s gradual rollout of artificial intelligence features, which began during its Worldwide Developers Conference in 2024, has seen some delays but aims for completion by 2025. These ongoing updates signify Apple's commitment to enhancing its AI capabilities and integrating them into everyday user interactions across its devices.
Overall, these developments highlight the rapid advancements being made by leading technology companies in the realm of artificial intelligence, paving the way for more integrated and efficient user experiences across digital platforms.
