In a recent online development, a fabricated video featuring Vice President Kamala Harris has circulated across social media platforms, generating substantial attention. The video purportedly shows Harris calling 2024 Republican presidential nominee and former President Donald Trump "Hitler" during an appearance on "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast. However, this claim has been confirmed to be false.

The video, widely shared on "X" and registering over four million views, has been scrutinised by multiple fact-checking entities, including Check Your Fact. This organisation employed the analytical tools of TrueMedia.org in examining the video. Their investigation revealed that the content was a creation of artificial intelligence, featuring both AI-generated audio and manipulated visual elements.

Additional analysis by media forensics experts supports these findings. Dr. Walter Scheirer, a specialist in media forensics and artificial intelligence from the University of Notre Dame, commented on the nature of the video. He noted, "The jaw of Harris deforms in unnatural ways when delivering lines about Hitler. And the audio sounds synthesized throughout the clip." Dr. Scheirer further suggested that the video's unnatural characteristics indicate it was likely developed using AI or other similar editing software, possibly for comedic purposes, considering its release by comedian Danny Polishchuk.

Furthermore, Politifact has also addressed the video's authenticity, aligning with the conclusion that it is AI-generated. They highlighted the lack of any references to such a statement or appearance by Harris on credible platforms, including her 2024 campaign website or her verified social media accounts.

In reality, Harris has not appeared on Joe Rogan's podcast. Reports from Fox News indicate that while there was an open invitation from Rogan for Harris to join his podcast, the potential interview was cancelled due to disagreements over the conditions set by Harris' campaign. These conditions reportedly included limiting the interview duration to one hour and a request that Rogan travel to meet her.

As election tensions continue to rise, misinformation such as this AI-generated video can contribute to public confusion. The recent poll results from USA Today/Suffolk University show Harris and Trump neck-and-neck in the key state of Pennsylvania, each securing 49% among likely voters. As the election date approaches, the proliferation of such misinformation underscores the challenges faced in maintaining an informed electorate in an era where digital manipulation of media is increasingly sophisticated.
