Huawei has unveiled its latest suite of solutions tailored for the burgeoning Mobile AI era, termed the 5G-AA solutions, at the 15th Global Mobile Broadband Forum (MBBF 2024) in Istanbul, Turkey. This event, spanning from October 30th to 31st, was orchestrated by Huawei with pivotal support from the GSMA and the GTI, and drew participation from key stakeholders, including operators, industry leaders, and ecosystem partners.
Cao Ming, Vice President of Huawei and President of Huawei's Wireless Solution, detailed the advancements during his presentation. He noted, "Mobile AI is changing our lives", highlighting that the new connections and digital services in this age of AI demand much from network capabilities. The 5G-AA solutions, according to Cao, are designed to provide comprehensive network optimisation, from advanced radio technologies to strategic digitalisation of entire site domains, and to achieve an ambitious level 4 network autonomy with digital engineers.
The 5G-AA solutions are poised to converge 5.5G technology with Artificial Intelligence through dual concepts: ‘Networks for AI’ and ‘AI for Networks’. ‘Networks for AI’ aims to furnish networks with requisite capabilities to cater to diverse service needs, enhancing both performance and user satisfaction; while ‘AI for Networks’ focuses on delivering level 4 autonomy via digital sites and RAN Agents, offering operators innovative avenues to bolster their market leadership.
In addressing the technical intricacies, Huawei presented several cutting-edge innovations:
Sub-1 GHz Massive MIMO: Establishes a ubiquitous foundational layer for Mobile AI. This approach tackles various technical challenges and improves network experiences by bringing Massive MIMO technology to lower frequency bands.
Blade AAU X for sub-6 GHz Bands: The industry’s inaugural solution that utilises a single antenna for Massive MIMO across the entire sub-6 GHz range, offering significant savings in site space and operational expenditure.
Unique U6GHz AAU: Ensures continuous high-speed connectivity, achieving unprecedented speeds due to its integration of 1,500+ antenna elements and advanced algorithms.
LampSite’s P-IoT Introduction: Enhances indoor intelligence through the novel Passive IoT access, enabling quicker deployments and more frequent asset evaluations.
EasyAAU: The lightest AAU product available, designed for simplicity and efficient deployment in varied urban and rural settings with a notably shorter installation timeline.
Integrated Antenna and Microwave (IAM): Combines antennas and microwave units to simplify installations, providing robust auto-seeking features to minimise maintenance efforts.
Full-Duplex Microwave with MAGICSwave: Employs superior isolation technologies and algorithms, effectively doubling transmission efficiency crucial to managing burgeoning data needs.
One-Box RuralCOW Solution: Tailored for rural deployment without reliance on extensive infrastructure, aiding in bridging connectivity gaps economically.
Agent-Based Digital Engineers Team: Autonomously manages network maintenance, optimisation, and energy conservation, leveraging intelligent RAN agents.
Ambient Site Digitalisation: Fully integrates and digitalises site equipment, advancing both energy management and enhanced user experiences.
The forum not only showcased technical advancements but also served as a critical think tank for the mobile broadband industry amid the surge of AI technologies. Discussions traversed the avenues for achieving business success with 5.5G and identified pathways from the current 5G implementations to more advanced 5.5G infrastructures.
In closing, Cao Ming expressed Huawei’s ongoing commitment to collaborating with industry partners to foster innovation and propel the integration of 5.5G and AI technologies, standing firm on their dedication towards adapting network capabilities to the rapidly changing digital and AI landscape.
