Insurance Industry Embraces AI Amid Modernisation Challenges: Earnix Report Insights
In a time marked by rapid technological advancements, the insurance industry is increasingly turning to artificial intelligence (AI) to transform operations and improve decision-making capabilities. According to a recent report by Earnix, a prominent provider of advanced analytics solutions, 70% of insurers are set to implement AI models aimed at real-time, data-driven predictions within the next two years. This trend indicates a significant pivot towards technology to enhance customer service and streamline processes in an industry traditionally perceived as slow to innovate.
The Earnix report outlines both the potential and the hurdles faced by insurers on the path to modernisation. Despite the optimism surrounding AI adoption, the industry grapples with substantial challenges. Operational errors have led to financial repercussions, with 51% of surveyed insurers reporting fines or refunds in the past year alone. Furthermore, the speed of adapting to regulatory and market changes remains sluggish, as 58% of insurance companies require more than five months to implement a new rule, and 21% necessitate over seven months.
Legacy systems are another considerable barrier. Nearly half of the respondents acknowledge a lag in updating their operational infrastructure, with older systems impeding the integration of new technologies. The transition towards digital operations and AI-driven models, as recommended by Earnix, could enhance accuracy, ensure compliance, and provide more agile services.
A spokesperson for Earnix commented on the findings, emphasising the critical need for insurers to overcome these technological hurdles. "These findings underline both the promise and the urgency of embracing AI and advanced technology in insurance," they stated, highlighting the importance of innovation for maintaining competitiveness and delivering improved services.
The discussion around the modernisation of the insurance sector and the role of AI will continue at the Insurtech Insights Europe 2025 event scheduled for March 19th to 20th at The O2 Intercontinental in London. Earnix will be participating as a sponsor at this prominent gathering, which will host over 6,000 industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and key decision-makers from more than 50 countries. This event will serve as a significant platform for sharing insights, fostering collaborations, and charting the future course for technology in insurance.
