Palantir Technologies Inc, a prominent player in the software sector, has announced its financial results for the third quarter of 2024. Unveiled following the market's closure on Monday, the report reveals a robust performance that surpassed market expectations.

The company's revenue for the third quarter stood at $725.52 million, significantly exceeding the consensus estimate of $701.13 million. This marks a notable 30% increase compared to the same period last year. Within the United States, Palantir experienced substantial growth, with overall U.S. revenue increasing by 44% from the previous year to reach $499 million. U.S. Commercial revenue soared by 54%, while U.S. Government revenue rose by 40%, highlighting the company's strengthened position across various sectors.

In terms of earnings, Palantir reported a profit of six cents per share, surpassing analyst expectations of four cents per share. The company's GAAP earnings results doubled from the previous year, marking the fifth consecutive quarter it has met or exceeded analyst forecasts on both revenue and earnings per share.

Palantir's customer base also showed significant expansion, growing by 39% year-over-year and by 6% from the previous quarter. The firm successfully secured 104 contracts valued at over $1 million each during the quarter. Furthermore, Palantir generated $420 million in cash from operations and reported an adjusted free cash flow of $435 million. As of the end of the quarter, the company's reserves of cash, equivalents, and short-term U.S. treasury securities totalled $4.6 billion.

Commenting on the quarter's results, Palantir's co-founder and CEO, Alex Karp, attributed the company's strong performance to the burgeoning demand for artificial intelligence (AI). He characterised the growth as part of a significant AI revolution centred in the United States, asserting that this trend is dividing the global market into "AI haves and have-nots."

Looking ahead, Palantir has adjusted its forecast for the fourth quarter, projecting revenue between $767 million and $771 million, against the previous estimate of $741.439 million. For the full year, the company has raised its revenue expectations to between $2.805 billion and $2.809 billion, surpassing earlier predictions of $2.759 billion. U.S. commercial revenue is anticipated to exceed $687 million, indicating a minimum growth rate of 50%. Additionally, the company now expects its adjusted free cash flow to exceed $1 billion for the year.

Palantir's share price has seen significant appreciation throughout the year, with a year-to-date increase of approximately 140% leading into the quarterly report. Following the release of the earnings, Palantir's stock rose by 12.73% in after-hours trading, valuing the shares at $46.68.
