Vertafore Enhances MGA Solutions Through Acquisition of Surefyre

Vertafore® has officially announced its acquisition of Surefyre, a prominent submission and underwriting workbench platform that has been designed specifically for managing general agents (MGAs) and wholesalers. This strategic move is poised to bolster Vertafore's leadership in the insurance technology market by integrating Surefyre's advanced AI-enabled, low-code/no-code solutions into its existing MGA suite.

The acquisition promises to unlock further potential for Vertafore's MGA clientele by introducing a modern agent portal and a comprehensive underwriting workbench. These additions are expected to facilitate a more streamlined workflow and accelerate the quoting process significantly. As a result, MGAs will experience reduced time in policy issuance.

Surefyre's technology offers several key features:

  1. A fully configurable agent-facing portal that handles the entire policy lifecycle, promoting improved collaboration between agents and underwriters.

  2. An underwriter workbench designed for MGAs to efficiently manage specialty Property and Casualty (P&C) business ratings and quotations across systems, thus maximising operational efficiency and spotlighting the most lucrative opportunities.

  3. AI-powered solutions that include automated configuration for agent portals, aimed at hastening market entry and providing additional AI-driven features to refine submission and risk selection processes.

Amy Zupon, CEO of Vertafore, emphasized the company's focus on empowering MGAs and wholesalers through technological advancements. "The acquisition of Surefyre’s platform allows us to set a new standard for swift market penetration, operational efficiency, and growth in the MGA sector," she stated. Zupon also noted that this acquisition builds on the groundwork laid by Vertafore’s prior successful acquisition of MGA Systems™ two years ago, underlining their sustained commitment to equipping MGAs with transformative technology.

The backdrop to this acquisition is a burgeoning MGA market, as highlighted in a 2024 Conning Strategy Study. The research points out that more than 1,100 MGAs and programme administrators collectively write over $100 billion in annual premiums in the U.S. This emerging landscape positions Vertafore to offer indispensable automated and adaptable technological solutions that MGAs need to maintain competitiveness and prosper in a rapidly evolving market.

Alex Bautista, co-founder of Surefyre, expressed enthusiasm about the merger with Vertafore, seeing it as an opportunity for further innovation and growth. "Surefyre’s mission is to advance the insurance industry with innovative technology. Collaborating with Vertafore, a leader that shares our vision, is an ideal progression for our product and team," Bautista commented.

This acquisition represents a significant step forward for both companies, setting the stage for enhanced innovation and growth in the insurtech sector, enabling them to continue to deliver top-tier solutions to their clients.
