Google Meet, the popular video communication service provided by Google, is on the verge of introducing a new AI-powered feature on its Android platform, aimed at significantly enhancing audio quality. This upcoming addition, known as "Studio Sound," promises to advance the current capabilities of noise cancellation by incorporating cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology.

Studio Sound represents a refinement of Google Meet's existing audio functionalities. It is designed to filter out background noise more effectively while improving overall audio quality by recreating higher audio frequencies, which are often challenging for traditional noise cancellation systems to process effectively. This marks a shift from the current noise cancellation setting and suggests an evolution in how auditory environments are managed during calls.

The component was spotted in the Google Meet application for Android by AssembleDebug, a well-known figure for discovering new features in apps. Although the feature is not yet available to all users, the discovery of Studio Sound in the app's settings implies an imminent rollout.

The description of Studio Sound indicates its function to "filter out background noise and improve audio quality," by employing AI technologies to mimic higher-frequency sounds that are particularly difficult for noise cancellation software to neutralise. Unlike more intensive AI processes, which might generate continuous sound, Studio Sound is designed to activate momentarily, ensuring seamless integration into the call experience without altering the natural voice.

Interestingly, Google has previously utilised the term "Studio Sound" in relation to the noise cancellation feature on their desktop interface, with documentation dating back at least as far as early 2024. However, this is the first indication that the feature will be available directly within the Android interface of Google Meet and Gmail's Meet tab.

While a specific release date for the rollout of Studio Sound on Android platforms has not been announced, the emergence of this feature in the app suggests that it could be made widely available soon. Android users could soon experience enhanced sound quality during their Google Meet communications, with fewer interruptions from undesirable background noise, thanks to this sophisticated AI application.
