Microsoft has announced a new enhancement to its Outlook email client with the introduction of AI-powered themes, labelled "Themes by Copilot". This innovation, aimed at providing users with an enriched and customised visual experience, requires a Copilot Pro or business licence. The move is part of Microsoft's broader strategy to integrate artificial intelligence into its suite of productivity tools.
The new themes are set to roll out across multiple platforms, including Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and the web version of Outlook. According to Microsoft's announcement, these themes are designed to transform Outlook into a more aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly interface. Users will have the option to personalise their Outlook experience by setting themes that reflect the weather or specific locations. Impressively, these themes have the capability to update dynamically every few hours, daily, weekly, or monthly.
One of the standout features of this update is the "My Location" theme, which leverages location permissions in Outlook. When activated, this theme provides imagery that is inspired by the user's current locale. This means that as users travel or embark on vacations, the Outlook theme can automatically adapt to reflect their new environment, thereby offering a dynamic and contextually relevant user experience.
The application of these AI-generated themes involves changing the wallpaper in the desktop version of Outlook, while in the mobile apps for iOS and Android, the themes alter the top section of the interface. Additionally, an accent colour is applied to customise the other elements of the Outlook client, creating a cohesive and personalised aesthetic.
For those who do not have access to a Copilot licence, Microsoft is also releasing a selection of standard non-AI-powered themes. This collection features colours such as green, red, and purple, and is available to all users across the web, PC, Mac, and mobile platforms of Outlook.
This update reflects Microsoft's ongoing commitment to integrating artificial intelligence into everyday tools, with the goal of enhancing both functionality and user satisfaction. As users begin to explore these new features, they will have the opportunity to tailor their email experience in ways that were previously not possible.
