Pond Secures $7.5 Million in Seed Funding to Expand Web3 AI Model Ecosystem
Pond, a rising startup in the field of decentralised artificial intelligence, has successfully secured $7.5 million in seed funding. This financial boost will aid the company in its mission to develop a comprehensive ecosystem for the creation and training of Web3 AI models.
Founded in 2023, Pond has set its sights on revolutionising how on-chain data is utilised, providing tailored solutions for the expanding crypto world. The funding round was led by prominent investment firm Archetype, with significant participation from Cyber Fund, Delphi Ventures, Coinbase Ventures, and the Near Foundation. The initiative also attracted individual investments from industry figures such as Chris Yin from Plume Network, Cynthia Wu of Matrixport, and Tesa Ho, the head of market research at Flashbots.
The financial raise was structured as a simple agreement for future equity, complete with token warrants, as revealed by Pond's co-founder and CEO, Dylan Zhang. This funding strategy emphasises future equity potential alongside immediate cash flow management, offering promising growth pathways for Pond.
Pond’s primary focus is the construction of a comprehensive ecosystem aimed at enhancing and broadening Web3 AI models specifically designed for crypto-centric applications. The company's initial offerings allowed exploration into the profiles of various crypto users and their blockchain connections, achieved through an innovative graph algorithm tailored for blockchain data. Dylan Zhang emphasised that this algorithm assesses the strength of these connections, empowering deeper insights into user networks.
Expanding on this foundation, Pond is aiming to develop platforms that foster the creation of sophisticated AI models suitable for multiple applications across the crypto domain, notably in sectors like security, recommendations, and decentralized finance (DeFi). The company's Chief Technology Officer, Bill Shi, noted that Pond is actively working on what they call a "complete model ecosystem." This ecosystem is not limited to creating their own AI models but also facilitates external developers in building and commercialising their crypto-native models.
Shi elaborated on the challenges presented by on-chain data, describing it as "extremely messy and vast in quantity." The goal, he explained, is to employ AI technology to transform this complex data into understandable and usable information, thus enabling users to make more informed decisions based on blockchain analytics. This initiative is aimed at easing the complications and enhancing the utility of crypto-specific data, which previously posed significant interpretation challenges to conventional data analytics.
Through this financial backing and its subsequent expansions, Pond is positioning itself as a pivotal player in the evolving intersection of AI and blockchain technology. By focusing on crypto-specific AI model training and integration, Pond seeks to address pressing needs within the industry, paving the way for advancements in how data-driven crypto solutions are developed and utilised.
