Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is embarking on a pioneering initiative to reshape user interaction across its social media platforms through the introduction of artificial intelligence-generated profiles. As reported by Cross-Border Magazine, these profiles are set to emerge in mid-2024, and the ambition behind this project is to enrich the experience of the approximately 3 billion active users on these platforms.
Connor Hayes, who serves as the vice president of product for generative AI at Meta, elucidated that the company is working on developing thousands of fictitious user profiles that will feature bios, profile pictures, and AI-generated content. "We want interactions between real users and AI users to be more realistic and emerge more naturally and socially," Hayes noted. This push for enhanced interaction aims to provide users with a new level of engagement that blurs the lines between human and AI participation.
However, the introduction of AI profiles has ignited considerable debate among users and analysts.
