Microsoft Unveils Enhanced AI Assistant Copilot Featuring Humanlike Abilities

He elaborated, "AI companions now see what we see, hear what we hear, and speak in the same language that we use to communicate with one another." According to Suleyman, this transition focuses on creating a persistent, empathetic relationship between the user and the AI, providing sustained interaction and support.

Discussing the new vision for Copilot, Suleyman emphasised the potential of AI to offer emotional and practical support, harking back to his early work in telephone counselling. He noted, "To see what it feels like to engage with one of these experiences over a sustained period of time—this companion that really gets to know you. It’s coaching you, encouraging you, supporting you, teaching you." He believes that this approach will make the interaction feel less like dealing with a conventional computer.

A notable feature within this update is "Copilot Vision," a labs feature accessible to Pro users. This mode allows users to interact with their on-screen content verbally. For instance, it enables them to ask questions about what they see on their screen, such as "What's that thing over there?" or "Is that cool?" This real-time, context-aware interaction is designed to simplify the user’s digital life, reducing the need to type and browse manually.

However, this feature draws some parallels to the controversial Recall feature, an optional Windows function that records users’ on-screen activities. While potentially raising privacy concerns, the implementation in Copilot Vision is framed as a means to provide immediate and contextual assistance, aiming to improve productivity and user convenience.
