This strategic collaboration will see Nio integrating Monolith's Anomaly Detector AI software into its battery management systems, utilising its sophisticated artificial intelligence capabilities to analyse data collected from real-world usage.
The innovative collaboration aims to harness Monolith’s unique self-learning algorithms to detect performance anomalies in the batteries more swiftly and accurately. This will involve automating the inspection of raw test data to identify potential errors, which could significantly improve the safety and reliability of the batteries used in Nio's electric vehicles.
Frank Kindermann, who leads the battery system division in Europe for Nio, emphasised the importance of this alliance, stating, “Nio’s partnership with Monolith exemplifies our commitment to delivering a premium user experience; 98% of our users across the five key European markets opt for Battery as a Service (BaaS).” This service model, particularly popular in Europe, offers Nio users the flexibility to either charge or swap their batteries according to their needs, thus enhancing both convenience and cost-effectiveness for the consumer.
By applying Monolith's advanced AI technology, Nio aims to establish a robust framework for comparing test-bench results with field data, which will subsequently inform further verification processes. This AI-driven approach will support Nio in addressing complex battery issues such as spontaneous discharge and thermal runaway, key factors in improving the safety and longevity of electric vehicle batteries.
