Amazon's Ring has unveiled a cutting-edge feature set to transform how users interact with their video doorbell recordings. This new development transforms the often time-consuming process of reviewing footage, making it easier to pinpoint specific events or details through the innovative Smart Video Search, powered by artificial intelligence (AI).
Traditionally, reviewing footage required users to sift through potentially hours of video to locate a particular event. For instance, checking for a reported incident involving a red car could be laborious. However, the AI-driven Smart Video Search changes this by allowing users to input straightforward queries directly into the Ring app, such as "red car." The feature then identifies and presents segments of interest, saving considerable time and effort.
The Smart Video Search will be initially available as a public beta, with a broader rollout anticipated soon after. Users will have the capability to search for incidents involving various categories, including animals, specific locations, delivered packages, people, weather conditions, and particular types of vehicles. Additionally, the search can encompass activities such as jumping, running, or playing. This feature will be compatible across all Ring video doorbells and cameras.
To access this feature, users will need to subscribe to Ring's newly introduced Home Premium plan, part of a revamp in the company's subscription offerings. Ring's subscription tiers, previously known as Ring Protect, have been reorganised to better meet user demands.
The foundational tier, Home Basic, remains at £4.99 / $4.99 monthly, covering one device and maintaining up to 180 days of video history. Enhancements include new Video Preview Alerts, which provide a snippet of footage within push notifications, enabling quick identification of what triggered a motion alert without needing to open the app.
The second tier, Home Standard, previously called Protect Plus, is priced at £7.99 / $9.99 each month. This plan now features an extended live view function, allowing real-time camera feeds to be viewed for up to 30 continuous minutes.
The newly introduced Home Premium plan, priced at £15.99 / $19.99 a month, offers comprehensive coverage across all Ring devices within a home. For the first time, it incorporates 24/7 recording with a 14-day retention period, providing ample opportunity for users to check and download any significant footage.
Ring's enhancements come amid a growing demand for more efficient ways to monitor and secure residential and commercial properties. By integrating AI technology into its systems, Ring positions itself as a leader in user-friendly security solutions, offering peace of mind with cutting-edge technology.
