Google has officially begun the global rollout of its AI screensaver generator, a feature initially launched with the Google TV Streamer in August 2023. This innovative feature, which allows users to create customised screensavers using artificial intelligence, is now becoming available on other Google TV devices worldwide.
The deployment of this feature, typical of Google's update processes, will occur in phases, meaning not all devices will receive the update simultaneously. However, users can easily check if their Google TV device has been updated by navigating through the system settings. From the Google TV home screen, users should select 'Settings', then 'System', followed by 'Ambient mode'. If the new feature is available, they will see an option for 'Custom AI Art' along with the traditional choices of 'Google Photos' and 'Art Gallery'.
The 'Custom AI Art' feature enables users to curate their screensaver experience through various means. Users can generate artwork by providing a descriptive prompt, either typed or spoken via the microphone on the remote. The 'Inspire Me' option allows for random generation of images, while another method lets users choose an art style, guiding them through the creative process step by step. This gives individuals a unique opportunity to personalise their home screens with creations that reflect their tastes and interests.
Early reviews of the AI-generated images are positive, suggesting that the technology is producing visually striking results. If a user is not satisfied with an image, they have the option to edit or regenerate it until the desired effect is achieved. Once satisfied, images can be saved directly to a personal gallery on the device.
