Jeffrey Minfang Lu has stepped down from his role as vice chairman at China Mengniu Dairy, heralding a shift in the company’s leadership structure. Lu's departure was confirmed in a stock-exchange filing on 10 October, where it was revealed that he is stepping down to concentrate on personal commitments and family. He has also relinquished his positions on Mengniu’s strategy and development committee, as well as its sustainability committee.

Having served as CEO from 2016 until March 2023, Jeffrey Lu was a prominent figure within the organisation. His leadership was succeeded by Gao Fei, another company executive. With Lu stepping back, Mengniu has also announced that Wang Xi has been appointed as a non-executive director. Wang Xi, who previously occupied similar roles, will also join the strategy and development committee.

Wang’s extensive experience spans positions at COFCO Corporation, including deputy director of strategy and general manager of direct investment. Notably, COFCO Corporation maintains a significant holding in China Mengniu Dairy via COFCO Dairy Holdings, which has substantial stakes in Mengniu. This connection underscores the intricate relationships within the company’s structure.

The announcement of leadership changes comes as Mengniu Dairy reported a financial uplift. The company's revenue rose by 6.5% to 98.62 billion yuan ($13.96 billion), attributed to an increased market share in China's liquid milk sector and remarkable growth in chilled yoghurt. Despite this, the firm’s net profit fell by 9.3% to 4.81 billion yuan, impacted by higher tax expenses.
