Palo Alto-based startup Snorkel AI has unveiled significant updates to its Snorkel Flow platform, enhancing its offerings for enterprises focused on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) model development. Launched four years ago by a group of researchers who saw the need for automated data preparation tools, Snorkel AI continues to push the boundaries of AI data lifecycle management.
The recent updates to Snorkel Flow aim to simplify AI and ML model customization while reducing the associated expenditure and intricacy of data preparation. This release introduces a suite of new functionalities, notably the ability to leverage Generative AI (GenAI) for creating use-case-specific benchmarks, and advanced Named Entity Recognition (NER) for handling PDF documents. Additional enhancements include comprehensive tuning workflows and integrations with current AI ecosystems.

A notable addition is the advanced NER feature aimed at simplifying information extraction from PDF documents—a task typically bogged down by manual labour. This capability is also beneficial for improving the performance of virtual assistants and GenAI chatbots in document comprehension and information retrieval.
In terms of broader integration, the update facilitates deeper connectivity with popular AI development environments such as Amazon SageMaker and Databricks, thereby easing workflows for data annotation and subject matter expert engagements.
Among the host of new tools is the Spotlight Mode, designed to assist users in pinpointing model prediction errors within sequence tagging workflows. Additionally, class-level metrics now offer more extensive insights into model performance, supported by improved user interface (UI) dynamics for enhanced navigation and data labeling efficiency.
Earlier this year, Snorkel AI had set the stage with a major update centred on integrating enterprise data with AI models. This newest release builds on that foundation, addressing fundamental aspects of data readiness and model validation, crucial for enterprises seeking to optimise unstructured data utilisation.
