In a significant restructuring move, Google has announced a reshuffle of several departments within its organisation, aiming to expedite the development and deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) products. The decision comes as the tech giant seeks to consolidate its efforts in AI initiatives and enhance the overall customer experience.

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, revealed in a recent blog post that the realignment would primarily affect the Gemini app team and Google DeepMind. The Gemini app team will be integrated into Google DeepMind, a synergy that is expected to refine product development and quicken the implementation of new models within the Gemini platform. This consolidation is anticipated to enhance productivity and streamline post-training operations, building upon existing product momentum.

Another major shift involves the repositioning of the Assistant teams, which will now operate under the Platforms and Devices department. By doing so, Google aims to unify its AI-powered home initiatives, allowing for a more focused approach to enhancing customer interactions with its products. This change is expected to bring the teams closer, facilitating a better feedback system and enabling faster deployment of updates.

In a bid to further strengthen its technical leadership, Google has announced that Prabhakar Raghavan, formerly the Senior Vice President (SVP) of Search and Ads, will transition to the role of Google’s Chief Technologist. After 12 years leading various teams at Google, Raghavan is set to return to his roots in computer science. In his new role, he will collaborate closely with Sundar Pichai and other executives to guide the technical direction of the company and nurture a culture of technological excellence.

Taking over Raghavan’s previous responsibilities, Nick Fox will assume the position of leading Google's Search, Ads, Geo, and Commerce products. Fox, who was part of Raghavan’s leadership team, is expected to bring his expertise and insight to these crucial segments of Google’s business.

These organisational changes reflect Google's ongoing commitment to advancing AI and improving the user experience across its suite of products.
