In a significant technological leap for the oil and gas sector, two companies in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have joined forces to launch a cutting-edge satellite-enabled artificial intelligence (AI) solution. This collaboration between AI innovator nybl and UAE's AI-driven space technology firm Space42 aims to revolutionise how oil and gas companies manage their operations by leveraging advanced AI and satellite communications technology.
The newly developed solution, unveiled by Thuraya, Space42's satellite mobility division, is designed to enhance the efficiency and productivity of oil wells. Central to the solution is its ability to predict potential failures in Electrical Submersible Pumps (ESP), a common component used to lift oil from wells. By providing real-time insights and predictive analytics, the AI technology enables companies to undertake pre-emptive maintenance, thereby reducing costly downtime and maintaining production flow.
Over a six-month period, the AI solution was successfully implemented on 27 oil wells, showcasing its capability to significantly improve operational metrics. According to Thuraya, the implementation of this technology can extend the lifespan of pumps by 20 to 30 percent, boost oil production by approximately five percent, and enhance the efficiency of operating wells by predicting failures that are not yet evident through existing monitoring systems.
The agreement between nybl and Space42 not only aligns with nybl's strategic growth plans but also complements Space42's vision of utilising space technology to drive innovation and efficiency in various sectors.
