Fractile, a UK-based deep technology company, has received a substantial boost with a £5 million investment secured through the Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) programme. This funding is part of a nearly £50 million distribution among 12 innovative projects, marking a significant push in the arena of technological advancement within the United Kingdom.
ARIA's programme, known as Scaling Compute, is spearheading efforts to revolutionise the field of computing, specifically focusing on reducing the cost of artificial intelligence hardware by a factor of 1000. This initiative forms part of a broader strategy designed to enhance technological development and capacity, driven by the Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology.
Fractile, which was founded in 2022 by AI specialist and 28-year-old PhD holder Walter Goodwin, stands out amongst its peers due to the calibre of its team. The company boasts a line-up featuring senior professionals who have previously held key positions in industry giants such as NVIDIA, ARM, and Imagination Technologies. Earlier in July, Fractile successfully raised $15 million (approximately £12 million) in a funding round led by Kindred Capital, the NATO Innovation Fund, and OSE.
The Scaling Compute programme itself brings together an impressive assembly of experts from various technological fields, including AI systems, mixed-signal CMOS circuits, and advanced networking.
