Tech company Humane has announced a significant price reduction for its AI Pin, an innovative technology gadget that has fallen short of expectations in terms of consumer sales. Initially launched earlier this year at a price of $699, the AI Pin is now available for $499. This revision in pricing aims to reignite consumer interest following underwhelming sales figures and critical reviews.
The newly priced AI Pin is offered in the "eclipse" model, which features a sleek, matte black anodized aluminium design. Notably, this version excludes both the additional battery and the charging case. Humane has advised caution regarding the charging case, citing safety concerns linked to certain battery cells from a supplier, which were found to potentially present a fire hazard.
For customers who wish to have the convenience of an extra battery, it remains available for an additional $69. However, purchasing the AI Pin involves ongoing costs, as it necessitates a $24 monthly wireless subscription to function correctly.
Since its debut, the AI Pin has encountered numerous challenges, including a wave of unfavourable reviews. In response to feedback, Humane has released several updates to the device's software, CosmOS, which have introduced new features such as timers. Despite these efforts, the device has struggled to gain a foothold in the market, with periods where return rates exceeded sales, as reported earlier by industry insiders.
