Middle East Cybersecurity Strategies Evolve Amid Rising AI-Driven Threats
Dubai, UAE – As the global cybersecurity landscape continues to rapidly transform under the influence of artificial intelligence (AI), the Middle East gears up to confront the complexities of increasingly sophisticated AI-driven cyber threats. Industry experts and leaders from the region will convene at the Intersec 2025 Security Leader's Summit set to take place from January 14-16, 2025, at the Dubai World Trade Centre. This pivotal event aims to delve into the innovative approaches required to counteract evolving cybersecurity challenges.
Fawaz Alsumaim, the Head of the Anti-Internet and Information Systems Crime Division at the Ministry of Interior in Bahrain, is among the prominent speakers scheduled to address the summit. Alsumaim will examine the emergence of a new breed of cyber adversaries leveraging AI for more expansive and refined cyber-attacks. Emphasising the increasing role of AI in both digital offence and defence, Alsumaim highlighted the potential for AI-driven autonomous systems to redefine the dynamics of cyber warfare.
“AI is rapidly transforming the landscape of cyber-warfare, altering how nations and organisations defend themselves and how adversaries conduct attacks,” Alsumaim stated, projecting a future where AI could enable agents to execute cyber operations with minimal human intervention. This presents new challenges in maintaining security over critical infrastructure and national resources.
The summit comes amidst findings from Cisco’s 2024 Cybersecurity Readiness Index, which noted that AI has become a crucial component of cybersecurity strategies in the Middle East, particularly in Bahrain and the UAE. The report revealed that a significant 91% of companies in the UAE have already integrated AI technologies to fortify defences against the evolving threat landscape.
Bahrain and the UAE exemplify the regional adoption of robust AI-driven cybersecurity measures. Bahrain has established a comprehensive legal and regulatory framework to safeguard digital spaces, while the UAE is at the forefront of technological advancement with its National Cybersecurity Strategy. These initiatives have propelled both countries to become key players in global cyber-defence collaborations, focusing on protecting infrastructure, maintaining operational security, and ensuring economic stability.
Intersec 2025 is set to be a comprehensive event, with cybersecurity featuring prominently among other security topics. The summit will explore innovations in next-gen integrated security solutions, strategies for managing risk in the face of technological advancements, and global collaborative efforts for enhanced security.
Grant Tuchten, the Portfolio Director at Messe Frankfurt Middle East, conveyed the summit's aim to provide participants with practical insights into AI's reshaping of the cyber-threat landscape. The UAE's significant strides in cybersecurity are underscored by the support of the UAE Cyber Security Council for the event.
Further enhancing the exhibition's focus on cybersecurity, Intersec 2025 will spotlight the latest advancements through the in{cyber} section. This area will include a dedicated start-up zone and Innovation Stage, showcasing pioneering solutions and technological innovations that could redefine security practices across the region.
