Samsung Electronics, the renowned technology company headquartered in South Korea, has announced a significant enhancement to its Galaxy AI platform with the introduction of additional language and dialect support. This strategic move is designed to expand the accessibility of Samsung’s native AI suite, enabling users around the world to benefit from its advanced functionalities in their own languages and dialects.
According to the announcement, the Galaxy AI will now support four additional languages: Turkish, Dutch, Swedish, and Romanian. Furthermore, it will also include new dialects of traditional Chinese and Portuguese. With these additions, the AI platform will support a total of 20 languages, marking a substantial increase from the previous count of 16 languages. The new language packs are scheduled to begin rolling out by the end of October 2024, providing users with enhanced opportunities to engage with Samsung's AI features in their native linguistic contexts.
This expansion follows the last major upgrade in April 2024, when Samsung introduced support for Arabic, Indonesian, and Russian languages. The company has reiterated its goal of dismantling language barriers to ensure a seamless and inclusive AI experience for its diverse user base.
Once the new language packs become available, users with compatible Galaxy devices can easily access and download the updates through the Settings app. This update will allow users to interact with the Galaxy AI platform, utilising features such as voice assistants and AI-based tools, in their chosen languages or dialects.
The enhanced language support is not only about broadening accessibility but is also pivotal to the functionality of various AI-driven features within Galaxy devices. Notably, the AI-powered Live Translate feature, which provides real-time, two-way voice and text translations during phone calls, heavily relies on a profound understanding of different languages and dialects. Additionally, the Interpreter feature, which enables live conversation translation via split-screen on supported devices, depends on the AI's capacity to accurately interpret and translate speech in real time.
Samsung has emphasized that this update will empower users by granting them the ability to lower language barriers and experience a wider array of AI capabilities on their devices. This latest development reflects Samsung’s ongoing commitment to incorporating innovative technology solutions that cater to the diverse needs of its global clientele.
