Virtualitics, an artificial intelligence company located in Pasadena, California, has secured a significant contract with the United States Air Force, valued at over $46 million. The agreement, which falls under the U.S. Air Force's Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase III programme, spans five years and aims to enhance the efficiency of weapon systems maintenance.
The announcement, made public on Tuesday, marks the continuation of a collaboration between Virtualitics and the Air Force that commenced three years prior. The focus has been on bolstering operational efficacy for flightline personnel through the adoption of AI-driven solutions. The latest phase of this partnership involves the deployment of Virtualitics’ Integrated Readiness Optimization applications across Air Force maintenance and sustainment units.
These applications are designed to amalgamate Conditions Based Maintenance-Plus (CBM+) risk levels with constraints related to inventory and staffing, thus optimizing resource management and operational readiness. According to Michael Amori, CEO and co-founder of Virtualitics, the collaboration represents a pioneering initiative to incorporate AI innovations directly into the hands of maintenance crews.
The technology offered by Virtualitics preprocesses and merges disparate data sources, constructs sophisticated AI models, and develops knowledge graphs. What sets it apart is its capability to offer three-dimensional visualizations that facilitate explainability and interaction, critical for making informed tactical decisions in a complex operational landscape. This functionality is in line with the U.S. Air Force’s Agile Combat Employment programme, which is engineered to provide greater operational flexibility in dynamic logistical environments.
